Lack of diversity in lacrosse

Anonymous
She's not playing Middie on the USA team OR the AS team that she played in last summer. Sounds to me, that perhaps, she really does excel to another level at defense. And there's nothing wrong with that!!!

Shocker - the media pushing a divisive narrative to meet an agenda.

How did a girl on the M&D B team make the U16 national team? And yes she is the only B team player on the team.

Is M&D discriminating against her and unfairly keeping her on the B team?

Or is US lacrosse putting a less talented player on its national team to increase diversity?

That is a really serious accusation, and completely unsupported from anything in the article, and goes against what everybody knows about travel sports. Teams play to win, period.

It's a legit point. M&D had only 3 other players on the team, one of whom was an attacker. Is M&D is keeping a national player on their B team that is a legitimate question to ask.

She made american select as well, over several M&D black midfielders. not accusing M&D of bias, but something feels off.

That is exactly what the family is implying.

"After rotating between a half-dozen coaches, Kim felt relief when Peck Burmeister, a coach for the M&D Lacrosse Club, was adamant Griffin was a midfielder and invited her to join his club in January 2021."

"“One, you can’t lock her in and have her only play defense, because that’s what happens in this sport. African Americans are only in defense."

Transation, any coach that played her on D and not Middie, had racial motives behind it.

It is very, very hard to have movement between the a and b teams on the top travel teams. And not racist at all - facts. Human nature is that once anyone black, white, brown, yellow has been slotted into a position, you are there for that team. Also, on different teams, your child can and will take on different responsibilities. Nothing nefarious at all.

Obviously this is an accurate statement, but goes against what the article is saying.

She didn't play midfield at AS, she made it as a defender.... Maybe, just maybe, she's better at defense than midfield.

This thread is a reflection of why discussion on the topic is never productive. At best it goes round in circles and accomplishes nothing, and at worst it divides people. Can we end it please.

Lebron James is playing center currently. He has also played Point Guard. That doesn’t that is the position he should only play. A player will understand the game more if they understand what it’s like to play each position and if they are capable of playing them all, it’s bad for their development to limit them. The team/coach would be limiting their growth

Looking at that roster - there is one middie that does stick out, ie school and team. Girl in question. Not so much.

This discussion is really intelligent and relevant.

Has anybody mentioned the lack of diversity in basketball and football, particularly at the pro level?

Every know and then some suspected white supremacist who wants to change the narrative brings it up.

^^^ No, its only not germane because its inconvenient to your argument. At least be honest and stop hiding behind the labels. Again, if you want to really address this, vote with your feet and your wallets. Encourage youth programming. Donate to programs catering to develop kids from those areas. But dont for a second presume to think that WaPo is doing anything other than fanning flames. We all just want the kids to have a season without covid restrictions and stirring up all this when there may or may not be an issue between the girl mentioned and her club team is just that a private matter. But implying we need quotas is ridiculous and smacks of the 'its not fair' arguments we all deal with our kids on. If you don't like lax, its an option nothing more. Think it needs to change, fix it. But just understand your fix isnt everyone's and facts are often in the eyes of the beholder.
