Jewa are not immune to racism. Anti-miscegenation was a big part of mainstream US Judaism in the 20th Century, coming directly from rabbis and parents. |
| *you may find Amy Wax's beliefs repulsive, but academic institutions must embrace the discussion of even unsavory topics. That's why I propose that Penn Law's storied Silverman Hall be renamed "Amy Wax cheated on her husband with a fellow professor Hall" " |
Shorter, Wax's Scarlet Letter Hall. That Scarlet A for both adultery and Amy Wax. |
Is that why all the protest supporting Palestinians were shut down and student expelled? If she supported Palestinian she would be out on her a$$. Specially at UPenn or any other Ivy. |
+1 54 year old Asian American who came here as a baby. And a former R now independent. Completely disgusted with the R party That jewish lady doesn't seem to understand Jewish history. |
| Well I can understand that they resent the hard work and high achievement of Asians raising the bar and eating into their privileged positions. |
Right? Jews were shut out of ivy leagues for the longest time because there were just "too many of them", but now that Asian Americans are starting to become "too many of them" in elite colleges, the US needs to restrict their presence here. I'm sure plenty of people thought to restrict Jews in the US, including maybe her own family. That lady is completely obtuse.. actually, she's a moron. No respect for UPenn. |

I’m a Penn Law alum (with minority, immigrant parents). I really don’t care about her - in my view the school should just totally ignore her. She’s a troll who delights in the pushback she gets from the school and the students, and any reaction just gives her oxygen.
It’s also extremely obvious that she’s not a representative of Penn or the law school and her views are expressed in her personal capacity. And she’s tenured, so if they fire her she’ll sue and probably get a settlement that’s worth more than her salary. But like some people said, I find it interesting that Penn has taken much swifter and more punitive (on a relative basis) action against students protesting the Israeli government and even pushed Liz Magill, who is clearly not an antisemite, out over a few ham-handed comments. |
Why should the school ignore her? And how can Asian American students feel confident that she isn't biased against them in her grading? Would you have taken her class? |
I’m the PP. I’m Asian. Penn has a school-wide blind grading policy to prevent bias in grading. I absolutely believe that policy is widely followed and that she could and would be fired for cause if she didn’t follow it, so honestly I wouldn’t personally be too worried about it if I had been assigned to her class (I wasn’t). I get why some people would be, and the school has addressed it. The first time she made racist comments, years ago, they took away her 1L teaching duties (the only context in which a law student wouldn’t be able to pick their professor) - which I 100% agree with. Since then she’s been limited to teaching one niche elective on conservative politics. I agree that you’d have to be out of your mind to elect to take that because of the subject matter, and I have heard she’s kind of insufferable, but everyone who does take it actively chooses to. Penn, like all law schools, has a Fed Soc contingent. But I don’t think they need to do anything else. The statements and internal letters they send out and all that stuff is just evidence of the school being “triggered”, which is clearly her objective. We all know Penn doesn’t condone what she’s saying. |
