What happened to this California family?

Wow, really original contribution to the thread. This is the idea that has been missing for 136 pages.

From Webleuths:

As an Incident Commander said during an Incident Team meeting for fighting the Ferguson Fire in 2018, “You may know that some of the peaks and gulches in this area have “Devil” in their name. There is a reason for that; the terrain is incredibly rugged and steep.”

Sleuth poster: Here is a video of a hiker doing the Hite Cove trail:

Another sleuth' response to video:

Great find. There's actually more than one video there.
Totally the wrong trail to be on in summer. Not at all a trail for beginners. Catastrophic for an unleashed dog (they'd head straight down one of those steeps to the river).

Not to be grim but assuming this was entirely the heat, did they all likely die on Sunday? Or if they were found on Monday would one or more have likely survived?

It so sad how nobody called the police Sunday night when they didn't make it home. Or even first thing Monday morning (nanny or his work when he didn't show). But I'm not sure if that would have made a difference?

Watching that ^^^ video, now I can understand how he was still sitting up after he died. Some of those switchbacks are practically cut into the side of cliff, it's so steep. There's plenty of terrain to hold someone in a seated position.

It's actually really beautiful, and I bet it's a wonderful hike in the spring.

Umm yeah, that looks like a pretty typical california hike so not sure what the point is here. People who think that is extreme must not be hikers.

I could see how he would take a seat resting against the rock wall. Was this video taken b4 the fire? It doesn’t look extreme at all. The weather was extreme, however. The toxic river looks inviting on a hot day I’m sure

You could never have hiked before and been fine on that trail. No way it was too difficult for them.

Agree it doesn't look bad. And I doubt with a baby in a carrier that they would be doing portions that required scrambling over rocks and boulders requiring you to bend over at the waist.

agree - I’ve been trying to say that from the beginning - inland california hikes are rugged and hot.

how are you going to skip those portions? there’s no other route.

9 miles of that in 100+ heat and a 1 year old in a carrier? Nope.

So much misinformation here. This is the easy trail. They were on the Lundy Savage trail. There is video of someone who flew a drone thru the canyon and you can see the switch backs on the trail. No shade. Rocks and scrabble.

It don't think we saw switchbacks in that video.

+1

I was expecting MUCH tougher terrain based on comments.
