BRYC hopes to be a feeder club if the Washington Spirit is awarded the GDA. BRYC's girls' technical director was just named head of the Spirit's youth academy. He's serving in both roles right now.

BRYC has always had one if the best girls programs Nationally, not just regionally.

Since the women pro teams are essentially guaranteed a DA slot, BRYC will be affiliated with the DA, just like Loudoun and Arlington are affiliated with DC United. While it might give BRYC players a slight advantage, it will be no more than the other clubs that affiliate with Spirit, and it doesn't stop top girls on other teams from getting invitations to try out as BRYC doesn't have enough top players to fill out the DA teams at each age group.

And given the number of players in the area, it's likely at least one other team in the DC region (Bethesda, FCV, Loudoun, PWSI or someone else) will get a DA, and it will be interesting to see if Baltimore can land a team also.

As far as I know, BRYC has no intention of getting involved with any DA mergers.

If your kid wants to play in college, they've got an excellent track record of both boys & girls getting into great schools. Just depends on what fits your needs... Eye on NT or playing D1/D2 college soccer.

And National team and pro spots.

I played girls in the 80s. Go BRYC!!

DA is a bag of crap.

BRYC is still excellent for girls (as it seems pp experience was in the 80s!)... Boys is a mixed bag. The U9/U10 boys coach is awful. He's arrogant, disrespectful and gets in fights with refs at nearly every game. So, not an example for young and impressionable youth. He's currently got most parents ready to ditch BRYC. The coaches at older age groups are great. They came in with the DOC, Welsh, and are a completely different experience than U9/10.

I suggest waiting til at least U11 before considering BRYC.

Any suggestions on clubs in the area to go to for boys U9/U10 other than BRYC? What about SYC at the younger age groups? South County is pretty disorganized and too new of a club.

How about going to your local club? If your kid has any future in soccer at all, the time for shopping around should come later. And it will likely come from coaches who have interest or compliment your kid.

Too many parents agonizing over the perfect club experience, when the point is to have fun and learn the game. For the vast majority of kids, the local club -- which means the least driving, is usually the best choice.

My local club is a big one. It's intense. Too intense for young kids IMO. My older kid has been there two years and the environment is crushing. We are staying close, but going smaller more about fun and learning. When he's older we might go back. I just don't want to stick my little one in this environment too. I saw the joy leaving my kid's eyes and he's serious about soccer just needs smaller.

Also, take any "feedback" from U9/10 parents with a grain of salt. Those parents are generally inexperienced and put any little bit of negative feedback in the worst light because they can't accept that their kid isn't the second coming of Messi. Parents like the PP will be the club hoppers always looking for the place that will treat their kid right in their eyes. Probably also demands straight A's from teachers.

Not sure if I'm the one you are referencing--but it's like small college vs big college. 2 years in we just realized we are small college people. We like a homier environment--nothing to do with our kids treatment. The whole environment is just tense.

We've been very happy at U9 with FPYC. Nice, small club with two incredibly competitive teams, an A and B.

That's the way to do it! A team and development B team. Players can bounce between the 2 as they age and have different spurts. Thus is how most clubs used to run until everything hot so big.
