There is not room at Hughes. I think if there had been, Fox Mill would have been moved to Hughes and stayed at SLHS. Crossfield might have been moved to Skyview then. I think that the desire to eliminate split feeders was strong enough that they couldn't find the space for FMES at Hughes and justify having one ES move from Carson to SLHS when the rest of Carson went to Skyview. I think that the combination of FMES families wanting to move and the lack of space at Hughes played a role in the final choice. |
Eliminating split feeders was a side benefit of who they propose to send to Skyview, but not the goal per se. They very much backed off from prioritizing the elimination of split feeders during the county-wide review. |
| As someone pointed out, they didn't seem concerned about Seema's Bull Run split feeder or creating a new split feeder at Brookfield just to find a neighborhood without a voice to move. |
| I wonder how many of the Chantilly families Seema was boo-hooing with at the meeting last night realize that the reason they were moved is because Seema removed her own neighborhood from the westfield hunger games? Such a hypocrite. |

Yes, move an ES to two different middle schools in a five-year period seems likely... |
Meren has the Westbriar/Marshall Island. A random street in it is less than 4 miles to South Lakes [no driving on Route 7] and 8 to Marshall. Random street 9.5 miles to Langley and a no diving on or crossing Route 7 to South Lake. None of those even are in the Flint Hill Island or the upper part of the Oakton ES boundary. She really should never complain about South Lakes and Floris and Fox Mill. |
I was not aware of that. Personally, I think that the SLHS group is annoyed that the schools that they worked so hard to move into SLHS wanted to move back to an AP school. Any time someone mentions preferring AP to IB you get the "But IB is better" and the sympathetic "We know IB is too much for some kids" posts. Both programs have their strengths and weaknesses but what SLHS is providing isn't really IB because so few kids are not interested in the diploma. They are treating IB classes as if they are AP classes. And they are upset when people take advantage of an opportunity to move to a school that is AP. (shrugs) |
Doesn't Crossfield already have some kids at Hughes? Moving the rest there would eliminate another split feeder. |
Yup, there is a small group in Fox Mill Something (not estates) that goes to Hughes and SLHS, they were perfectly happy to stay with that arrangement. |
This is just Kyle's way of wussing out with a fake excuse. Between the condos that high schoolers will never live in and the fake bus times, he's lying out of every orifice in his body. |
Crossfield parent who was pro-Sky view. I would be totally fine with my kids moving to South Lakes if it weren't for the IB issue. |
They will buy an office building somewhere and turn it into a new MS. |
Carson is turning into the Skyview feeder and Franklin will only be a two way split. |
I think they are much more likely to move Navy out of Oakton in the future than Crossfield. Either to Chantilly or Fairfax. |
