We are talking Mcps, not other counties and of course they can move or close schools. |
| It is easy to identify the outsiders who are claiming to be Wootton parents. Well they are either outsiders or naive to the real estate market. Nobody who knows real estate will deny that Option H will cost most Wootton neighborhoods potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in home equity. Some may not let that drive their entire decision, but anyone who says they don't care about that is either pretending to be Wootton, a renter (very small percentage) , or is extremely wealthy (and many of these people go private anyway). Any reasonable homeowner will factor this into their equation and 95% do. Saying that you literally don't care about this or that the whole thing is about driving distance is hard to believe. No need for troll response. I realize you do not care nor does MCPS care. I am speaking to those in the Wootton cluster |
By your logic any students with low grades and test score should not be allowed. Where do you want them to go? |
You are the troll. |
The law in question is a state law, which governs those counties the same way it governs MCPS. |
You are ranting to the wrong people. I’d gladly take a new building for health reasons. What is your solution? |
There is no law saying the can’t close a facility and transfer students. It’s been done multiple times over the years. |
Amen!!! |
Me again - in the Cold Spring, Cabin John, Wootton cluster and I DO NOT CARE!!!! Option H makes the most fiscal sense for the county as a whole. I cannot expect the county to think about my home value and you should not either. That is selfish. I have lived in my house for over a decade and I am thankful for the equity built. If some of it disappears (which I do not think it will either way) so be it! Horizon Hill families love RM and Cold Spring families will love Crown! |
You are probably the only cold spring parent who is for H. I also live there. And Crown will be far below RM in performance if this passes. Why did you move to this area if you don’t care about the school rating? Might as well have moved to the GHS cluster if it wasn’t important to you. |
Feel free to move near Crown. Cold Spring families do not love Crown because of its location. Also, many HH families would prefer Wootton to RM, as they used to be in Wootton. |
Minor remediation?! How dare you say what “Wootton families will take.” I am a Wootton parent, and I am not willing “to take” only minor fixes. What on earth constitutes minor out of the list of safety needs? All of the really negative aspects of the building are pretty darn major. HVAC. MOLD. PIPES. BATHROOMS. It is so selfish to not be grateful to have been offered a new building but would rather drag everybody down with your loud opinions. This is actual safety of the children and the teachers. And even more selfish to drain what is already a pathetic budget on updating a school when a new one is available. Like everybody’s taxpayer dollars will go to just our old building? Last thing. To whomever said there will be lawsuits as soon as option H is selected: you are probably arguing that you are setting a good example for your kids by being determined and looking out for them. It’s teaching them to be a bunch of snowflakes who will grow up saying, “but do you know who I am?!” It’s not like we are being offered the raw end of the deal. Others would be so jealous of all of the amenities of this new building. |
dp.. why do you say that? Even if that's true, so what? Your kid will stand out. It'll be better for college admissions, trust me. I live in the HH cluster, and one of my neighbors has lived here for a looong time during the time HH get rezoned to RM. Lots of parents were upset because "it's a lower performing school." Neighbor's kids ended up very very successful (doctors, lawyers,..) Even if Crown becomes a lower performing school, and I doubt it will get lower than RM, your kids will still have a high performing peer group, and enough of them such that the school will offer the same amount of AP courses that Wootton currently has. The reason why opponents of H from Wootton are called racist is because you think adding a few brown/black kids will degrade the school. |
That's wildly exaggerated. *Wildly* But thanks for being so transparent about your concerns, regardless of how unfounded they are. |
Yes, nothing like using your own children as puppets and enforcing that they actually believe no one cares about them. That was absolutely horrible. Just as bad as the Wootton entitlement- if you don’t get a new school then the only option left is that no one cares about you? Such a terrible message for those poor kids. And covering their faces was just weird. |
