Absolutely. That's why there are so many clubs. Always can jump to make yourself feel better (at least in the short term). My son played for VLC for many years, but was on one of the "chosen" teams that had loads of talent and, mostly, a pretty sane bunch of folks. Sorry to hear things have gone sideways for them. |
| I don’t think there are parents on here blaming parents. Pretty low brow from the organization to blame parents for their shortcomings and childish to spend so much time on a message board trying to salvage the reputation rather than just fixing what the customer base is advising is broken. |
| There’s no good solution to this problem. In a perfect world The NVYLL would follow the soccer model where kids would start playing dad coached house and the move up to local based “travel teams” with professional coaches based on ability. Teams would be stable, there would be opportunities for everyone to play and the best kids would have opportunities to move up. The youth lax business produces more unhappiness than any other sport I’ve been involved with. |
| I agree there is no good solution. It just is really unfortunate when clubs have to fold or forfeit a team or whatever. Not a good thing for the kids or the club! |
Yeah that's what Dico wants you to think when he comes in here anonymously and throws shade on parents and players in order to distract from how poorly he ran the club |
Coming from VLC... Dico is not the one running VLC anymore, he is just a coach. |
He was more active here when he was running it. |
| It appears the vast majority of people posting here want VLC to be successful even with the negative comments, no other club has 137 pages of comments. |
| Wanted them to be successful. They failed and it hurts the Nova lax community. More disappointed than mad. Consumers move on but they blew a big opportunity with many different age level teams |
| I think this is the year, when true finally takes over the NOVA lax scene. Cavs is gone. VLC is a disaster. Madlax is a slow motion disaster. TC is a Madison/ Robinson product. The True tryouts were packed and their teams have great coaches (for their level) and excellent field space. It’s too bad VLC failed to execute- this should have been thier moment |
| True is going to be a disaster. Watch. |

True is not going anywhere in the DC/VA area. Yes, VLC has had some major issues recently, but they have an in for the better tournaments compared to other teams in Northern Va. If your kid can make the elite team you will have better opportunities. They will probably also attract most of the more experienced players in NOVA for that reason. The new league director is a great guy. He’s been in the lacrosse community forever. Some people may not love him, but he’s a great coach, and does have what it takes to run the program. I honestly feel like he will turn the club back to the direction it once was. Acquiring the Cavs players did water down VLC, and unfortunately affected some talented VLC players because of it. However, they have had time to work out the kinks, and I feel are doing the steps necessary to rebound the program. They have a strong coaching staff now, and are recruiting to establish competitive teams again. The 27’ coach that was a rec coach caused the entire 27 team to quit, is now coaching the 30’s. That is probably the only dumb move I’ve seen with the new program direction.
If you want your kid to be recruited at high level lacrosse program for college, they must be on the elite team. If they are at the elite level and not playing elite division, then move on to another club. If you’re okay with mediocre tournaments, and average players the lower level VLC teams are great for just that. For the record I’ve been a VLC parent who’s experienced the good, bad and ugly with VLC. If anyone has a reason to not recommend this club it would be me. However, aside from the personal misfortune we experienced, I know as a long standing lacrosse parent VLC is the best you’re going to get in the NOVA area for recruiting and competitive lacrosse. If you’re willing to drive to Maryland that’s another conversation. |
So the director is great and can run a program but the first step he does is allow a guy that already blew up a team coach another team? Sounds like there might be some bias in your post. |
| Who is the director? |
The Virginia scene in the 2027 class and below is generally pretty bad, but True is NOT the solution. True is a national scam, revolving door, snake oil sales at its worst. I invite just one person on this Board to identify a True team in any location, at any age group, on which your son or daughter has been playing for a couple of years with continuity of coaches and players, and is having an overall good experience. I will wait. |
