Then just have your kid play local rec and be done with it.

Even amoung next level, madlax and blc/dce there is always at least one club that is struggling. The second tier clubs TC, VLC, True etc are always going to have difficulty fielding teams as parents bounce from club to club trying to find that perfect spot for their son. VLC has added an additional element of inconsistency with the merger. The perfect solution (which admittedly is impossible to implement) would be for parents to realize that their son is unlikely to be one of the few kids to make it and to value playing time, friendship and physical fitness over elite opportunities.

accurate and well said. the earlier poster who said her son is really happy on one of the HS teams is probably on the 2024 team (Dico) or the legacy VLC 2026 (Schwartz) teams. Those teams are well coached and competitive. The 2025 team, and the 2026 legacy Cavs teams, have had their ups and downs and currently seem ok. But in the 2027 class and below, it looks like VLC has either no team at all, or a precarious team hanging by a thread. I hope they can get those teams turned around, but time will tell.

I also wonder if the 2027 and 2028 teams would have done better in the DMV if they had started kids at earlier years? I am pretty sure that is why teams like Annapolis Hawks, BLC/DCE, Madlax, and Next Level have done well.

definitely true. the 2026 team started in 4th or 5th grade with a core group of good players and have been adding steadily. teams that wait until middle school or HS to get rolling will get the players who aren't cutting it on the other teams.

VLC did have a 2027 team that started in 5th grade. This is the team that imploded.

When did 2028 start? Because they do not have that year team now.

Looks like they are trying to fill their 2030 team too with not enough players at tryouts. What’s going on?

True came in and had some pretty large turn outs for teams. I am guessing people are hoping they are a better/organized team?

No one good is going to True lol

Honestly the parents are a huge part of the problem because most sacrifice their own child’s development and playing time to be on a ‘winning team.’ The other issue is finding great coaches - it’s not like it’s high paying or glamorous work and dealing with said parents is probably not that enjoyable. And it sucks because when these programs fold, that’s one less place for kids to play.

Can someone in the know post all of the VLC teams that were formed for this coming year?

I guess all those VLC helmets at True practices are a mirage.

Not sure I’ve seen a thread that consistently blames the parents for a club’s issues more than this one.

To be fair, the root of most issues does point back to parents, especially NOVA parents...

Blame can go both ways. But when a kid needs better coaching they move to another team to find it.
