If you really believe this then wait for the leagues to do it. Advocating on here does nothing. You don’t have to convince us. |
All signs point to no. |

Most likely what leagues will do is implement a rule that Aug birthdays must play on a team with players their grade in school. Not allowing them to play down on a team with players a grade below them.
Thos achieves the same thing as SY+30 with a 9/1 cutoff. When players get to recruitment age nobody is playing specifically for wins. Having 1-2 players that are graduating a year earlier than everyone else on the tram would be annoying for recruiters and parents. |
And you dont think there will be an equal, if not more, group of August parents that would complain if you “forced” them to play a 13 month calendar vs the 12 month calendar where they currently fit? I dont think the leagues want the headache. Let the individual circumstances dictate if they play up or down in consultation with parent/palyer/coach. |
if I had an Aug birthday playing down on my kids team. I'd vote with my feet, taking my kid to a different club. Clubs will choose 18+ of age paying customers over 1-2 kids playing down. |
🙄 |
What you dont get is once players are older everyone knows everyone else. If a club gets a reputation for playing Aug birthdays down on a lower grade team for wins nobody will try to get onto their teams. Nobody wants to play on. a team full of oddballs. |
Except for the rules currently in place that allow it. |
That ship sailed with 8/1 instead of 9/1. Leagues outside of rec will not force players to play up. Grades aren't the thing you think they are for U.S. Soccer. |
You have to be a Ulittle parent. Nobody that has been in youth soccer for more than an hour believes that. Keep in mind that all these kids are on the same team RIGHT NOW. Nobody would bat an eye to see an August play for the youngers if it was the right thing to do for the kids development. We have two August birthdays right now on my younger daughter u13 team. One will play up because she is physically mature. the other will most likely play down because she is a late bloomer who has great technical skills. She will most likely play down 26/27 and 27/28 and rejoin her team in 28/29 for recruiting. And I guarantee no parent will be so butt hurt they do that they would leave the team. |
100% parents would take their kid to another team. Once you get to u15 and up its all about recruitment and minutes played. Who wants some loser on their team taking up minutes which no college coach or recruiter will take serious because they're playing on a team a grade down in school. Why do I even waste my time? |
Thank you for holding the line and posting about this type of thing. So many parents are me me me and think they can shape team sports into a cheaters paradise. |
And he is back replying to himself😂 Yep, parents going to move to a different team where they dont know anyone, probably futher away, uncertainty about position or competition all because an August birthday plays in their correct age group. Didnt you take enough of an L on the GA not going to SY thing? You ask why you waste your time. I recommend you take your own advice and stop posting. You are embarrassing yourself. |
Are you really referring to potential teammates as losers? Playing down, misaligned grade, trapped, whatever the reason you have to justify something you don’t sound like a family I’d want on the team. The best thing I’ve learned over the years is to worry about my own kid. Are they developing? Are they having fun? That’s all the matters. The rest will work itself out. |
Yes. choosing to play down a grade is called being a loser. And your'e kid is stealing minutes from those that actually have s chance of being recruited. Just play on the second team in your grade level. |
