Thos achieves the same thing as SY+30 with a 9/1 cutoff.

When players get to recruitment age nobody is playing specifically for wins. Having 1-2 players that are graduating a year earlier than everyone else on the tram would be annoying for recruiters and parents.

And you dont think there will be an equal, if not more, group of August parents that would complain if you “forced” them to play a 13 month calendar vs the 12 month calendar where they currently fit?

I dont think the leagues want the headache. Let the individual circumstances dictate if they play up or down in consultation with parent/palyer/coach.

if I had an Aug birthday playing down on my kids team. I'd vote with my feet, taking my kid to a different club.

Clubs will choose 18+ of age paying customers over 1-2 kids playing down.

🙄

What you dont get is once players are older everyone knows everyone else. If a club gets a reputation for playing Aug birthdays down on a lower grade team for wins nobody will try to get onto their teams. Nobody wants to play on. a team full of oddballs.

You have to be a Ulittle parent. Nobody that has been in youth soccer for more than an hour believes that. Keep in mind that all these kids are on the same team RIGHT NOW. Nobody would bat an eye to see an August play for the youngers if it was the right thing to do for the kids development.

We have two August birthdays right now on my younger daughter u13 team. One will play up because she is physically mature. the other will most likely play down because she is a late bloomer who has great technical skills. She will most likely play down 26/27 and 27/28 and rejoin her team in 28/29 for recruiting. And I guarantee no parent will be so butt hurt they do that they would leave the team.

100% parents would take their kid to another team. Once you get to u15 and up its all about recruitment and minutes played. Who wants some loser on their team taking up minutes which no college coach or recruiter will take serious because they're playing on a team a grade down in school.

Why do I even waste my time?

Thank you for holding the line and posting about this type of thing.

So many parents are me me me and think they can shape team sports into a cheaters paradise.

Thank You 😊

There's a bitter angry troll that likes to patrol this thread. The good part is if you hang out long enough they'll out themselves. Its always suble little pushes to GY which nobody wants.

My guess is they realize their money is made from being the platform known for college recruitment especially on the girls side. College coaches have told them it’s annoying to have kids from various grades.
ECNL never wanted the BY change to begin with as it doesn’t align with their business model.
Someone posted rumor on another forum that ECNL wants GY for showcases which I hope is not the case but why else fight and push unless it’s to get what they want which is the most efficient college recruiting platform.

No GY haters just tin hat people only…

its the same person trying to start a rumor that ECNL will allow GY that's been saying it for several years.

I’ve been out of the mix living my life but sometimes I do like to kick the GY hornets nest just to get this GY hater upset and then I go back to my life

My daughter is Aug born and would be in the grade above most of her teammates next year so GY has no effect on me or my kid as she is already in high school.

Are you really referring to potential teammates as losers? Playing down, misaligned grade, trapped, whatever the reason you have to justify something you don’t sound like a family I’d want on the team.

The best thing I’ve learned over the years is to worry about my own kid. Are they developing? Are they having fun? That’s all the matters. The rest will work itself out.

Yes. choosing to play down a grade is called being a loser.

And your'e kid is stealing minutes from those that actually have s chance of being recruited.

Just play on the second team in your grade level.

Our MLSN B10 team has 3 Q3/Q4 B09 biobanding to play down. They literrally took 3 starters position and play most of the time. So our 3 B10 players now have to sit on the bench to accommodate these 3 09s. They don't even practice with us.

What's even more annoying is they're not even being seriously considered for a homegrown team.

Yep, what you're describing is called playing down for wins.

Now imagine an entire team of older players playing down and you have High Level HS Football, Basketball, LAX, etx

You dont want this in Soccer.

They can’t help themselves just like they can’t stop ECNL and most likely GA from going GY for the olders for showcases.

Read the new rules from us soccer on showcases it definitely allows for GY if that’s something a league who wants to make recruiting easier for college scouts wants to do….

I looked and nothing you've said holds water. I think what you're dreaming about in your head is that because US Soccer has allowed leagues to pick whatever grouping they want that somehow this translates into GY at showcases.

1. You can't do this under current ECNL and I think GA rules because showcase results are used to calculate who gets a wildcard

2. Parents will flip out if clubs bring down older players during their kids prime recruiting years.

Whats to gain? Some player from outside the club or a club player playing with their age suddently gets to play down in showcases with their grade ? I can see where a cheater would love this but nobody else will.

Fun thing about the inconsistency here. Complaints if a kid actually plays with their grade while at the same time saying if you aren't good enough to play a year ahead where you might not be playing in the same grade you won't be good enough for college anyway. What is my kid supposed to be doing again (after kicking the ball off a wall for 4 hours a day, pay for extra coaching and drive 4 hours to a top tier club?)

If your kid isn't good enough to play on the top team in their age/grade. They're supposed to be playing on the second team in they're grade/age. Not taking minutes from other players on a grade younger team.

Why is this so difficult? Why are you trying so hard to cheat by playing down for wins? The parents on that team will despise you. It wont be a good experience.

Calm down Francis.

Jan-Aug isn't cheating now by playing down with a lower grade, they are in their assigned grouping solely based on age. And players won't be allowed to play down in age in SY either.

Parents inventing their own opportunistic moralistic code to try to shame kids so their kid can get an advantage are pathetic.

Club soccer is age based and unless you are using a a fake birth certificate with a younger age, in no way shape or form are you cheating.

If grades are your only definition for youth sports, great then stick to school sports and stay out of club sports.

Here's the REALLY fun thing about what's maybe going to happen. Some Aug-Dec 2nd teamers just might be better than 1st teamers currently Jan-Jul. IF they are better, they'll make the team -- which is how it should be. Nothing is entitled. It needs to be earned. That said, they also may be a bunch of Aug-Dec 2nd teamers who will just join the Jan-Jul 2nd team and nothing wrong with that, either.
