BOE - who are people voting for?

However, Diaz resigned from MCPS and complained to the board that wearing a mask violated her freedom of religion.

Diaz was fired because she wasn't showing up for first period, when admin was stopping by to see if she was wearing a face mask, as was then required. She refused to wear a mask. She received numerous warnings.

I'm particularly annoyed with everyone who voted for Diaz in the primary. It made no sense. They had to know she has no chance in the general election. Did they really think Smondrowski was as bad as Zimmerman will be?

Or were these MCEA members trying to spoil the primary for Smondrowski?

I’m annoyed they didn’t do their homework

Plus Diaz is out and about lying her butt off

Looking at Diaz, she's definately out. She's job jumped a lot, runs an unlicenced preschool (or appears to be unlicensed) and really has no experience as she's had so many jobs, etc. Something seems off.

There's no way Diaz legitimately got 18% of the votes. I think MCEA organized having some of their members vote for her to push her into second place.

Smondrowski didn't campaign very much if at all in the spring.

I would expect outreach to ramp back up in the coming weeks. There are only 6 candidates left in the race at this point:

At Large:
Lynne Harris (incumbent)
Rita Montoya

District 2:
Brenda Diaz
Natalie Zimmerman

District 4:
Shebra Evans (incumbent)
Laura Stewart

One of the frequent posters here complains about Silvestre having a conflict of interest because of Montgomery College.

Zimmerman has a *huge* conflict of interest, even acknowledging that she plans to represent teachers on the Board. It's too bad that Diaz is such a wacko, but I'll still be voting for her.

If Zimmerman wins, she'll resign her teacher position. It's not a conflict of interest for former teachers to be on the board.

Where is she teaching? She didn’t come up in MCPS staff directory.

The system is rigged.

The winners will be Montoya, Stewart and Zimmerman. They sold their souls the most to special interest and they know it. They could care less about student achievement. Zimmerman doesn’t even want to do the job. However, she loves the attention and is okay with people telling her what to do and say.

If the system is rigged, then why aren't Sunil Dasgupta and Valerie Coll on the board? They got the MCEA endorsements in recent elections too.

Its part politics, part popularity contest.

To be fair, Sunil was a particularly awful candidate running against someone fairly well-liked.

Luckily the BoE doesn't need to directly interact with kids much.
