2021 VA Governors race

Anonymous
Has anyone ever actually met a Republican in nova (outside of Great Falls)? I never did. And no, four Youngkin signs in some weedy median strip on some potholed street in Arlington doesn’t count.

+1

The smug arrogance of these people is unbelievable.

"But...but...literally NOBODY in my social circle is voting for Youngkin. How can this race be so close??!?"

Oh, we know who is voting for Youngkin and why. It’s not a mystery. But we think it says appalling things about you as people.

Can I tell you something that you are going to find shocking?

I know that some of my friends of voting for Terry. I think it says that they are foolish/ brainwashed/ incapable of critical thinking/ fill in the blank. I would never say that it says "appalling" things about them, even though I think he is an "appalling" human.

I guess that's yet another point about all of the "tolerant" Democrats that populate this forum.

I change my mind everyday. I identify as liberal and defintely am left on most issues. But I am so angry about the school closures last year and shit like this: https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/the-richmond-public-schools-division-is-doing-terry-mcauliffe-no-favors-in-virginia/

I wish Rs didn't fall into the fake controversy over CRT and I support transstudents rights. But VA public schools are messed up and the mask mandate needs to be lifted on kids. The CDC has jumped the shark with the latest statements about masking even after kids are vaccinated. Rates are low and vaccines are imminent, governors need to start announcing off-ramp plans now. I have zero confidence in McAuliffe on these issues.

The pandemia is not over and kids need to keep their mask on at school. Precaution doesn’t hurt, being R-neck does.

Voting for Youngkin is horrific.

Texas today no one has a vote anymore. This will be Virginia. Youngkin will do exactly what Abbott just did. He put a Sec of State in that is a Trump supporter of the Big Lie they will not change every election without anyone being able to do anything. Abbott will never leave office. Women in Texas are toast.

Is that what you want for Virginia's children to grow up in a place where Democracy died, where their votes no longer count.

This is not about schools it is about Democracy and you all better wake up because Youngkin will take Virginia back to the dark ages in a jif and there will be no stopping the GOP and their criminal activity.

Yesterday Trump started a social media company with a communist company based out of Wuhan China. The GOP ie Youngkin is the communists and again it's only going to get way worse.

Spare us the whole school issues, Youngkin is going to ruin them his ideas for privatizing schools just means bad schools and money flowing to his pocket.

Come on people see the big picture. Please pay attention you are missing it and when this race is over either China wins or the US? Which are you for?

And more proof Youngkin supports the Big lie

Please do not vote for this traitor to the US.

Virginia GOP candidate Glenn Youngkin financed a PAC that supports 2020 deniers and 1/6 apologists.

It's bad people very very bad.

I wish Rs didn't fall into the fake controversy over CRT and I support transstudents rights. But VA public schools are messed up and the mask mandate needs to be lifted on kids. I don't think Rs are falling into fake controversy. When McAuliffe calls CRT a 'racist dog whistle' and insists it isn't being taught in schools, that ignores the underlying objectives that very much are being taught in schools. A better move might be to either fully own that Democrats think what's happening in education is ok, rather than trying to gas light Republicans and tell them they're imagining it or are racists.

See:

*SEL learning standards put out by Virginia DOE and FCPS survey (Requirement for SEL passed in 2020)
*VMPI put out by Virginia DOE (the original, with videos, before anyone paid attention and they back tracked) (requirement for VMPI passed in 2020)
*22.1-298.1 - teacher licensing -- requirements that to get a license, all teachers shall complete instruction in African American history, training in cultural competency, and they will be evaluated on cultural competency in order to keep their jobs (bills passed in 2021)
*APS recent discussion about making grades more equitable (2021)

DP. But none of that has to do with crt. There are many problems with, say, Loudlun County right now. But crt is not one of them.

Planning to vote for Youngkin, abstain on Lt. Governor (two complete and utter lightweights), and vote for Herring.

One party rule sucks.

The only way things will change is if you vote R to send a message of dissatisfaction. I’m like you. That’s what I’m doing. I’m sick of reasonable people like me being taken for granted as democratic votes.
Anonymous
I guess you won’t have to worry about your vote counting at al then if you decide to vote for Youngkin. The R party is actively working to decide election results in Ga, AK and other states.

Senate Republicans won’t even talk about a Manchin-backed voting rights bill. In 2006, Republicans fully supported reauthorizing the Voting Rights Act. How far they’ve fallen.

Trimp supporters staged a violent insurrection to keep votes from being counted and Youngkin supports trump, repeats the lie, doesn’t condemn his supporters spreading the lie and pledging on a flag used at the insurrection.

But you want to register disapproval with Democrats by voting for Youngkin!

Remember what the R general assembly tried to do when it had power? Transvaginal ultrasounds! The house is very close to flipping Republican again. We need a veto for the extremist crap.

And then both parties of whacky fringe players that are more interested in scoring re-tweets on fringe issues than making a difference.

not really. Everything is whack fringe until the politician actually starts implementing the whacky fringe policies (look at Texas or California for examples depending on which side you personally view as whacky fringe).
