Because he has proved he can very successfully defend women against powerful men.

Of course you knew that, but you have your pro-Trump glasses on.

Another random comment: I could potentially believe that he was part of this gang rape culture but didn't have sexual intercourse. Might have even took a turn in the room and came out bragging just to look cool after failing to get it up. Maybe that's why he volunteered that info in the interview. Or maybe that's really unlikely and he had a ton of sex, some of it non-consensual.

Who knows

This is almost too outrageous to even be believable. It’s like someone said “let’s come up with a shady sexual allegation to make him go away.” And that didn’t work so then they said “let’s try again just to bolster the first one.” Then when that didn’t work they said “screw it, let’s go for broke. Let’s say he’s actually a serial gang rapist.” I mean, this is like every liberal dystopian fantasy come to life

This is one of the rare reasonable comments on this thread full of hysterics.

Judge had already told his then-GF about this stuff. Avenatti didn't make this up.

Lol, really moving the goal posts aren’t we? Do you know how to argue? Do you understand logic? They released an unprecedented amount of documents. Kavanaugh has a long record so, yes, a lot of the documents were reasonably subject to the objection that they were protected by executive privilege. Once again, I’m a lawyer. The GOP objection was reasonable.

OMG! How many times are you going to tell us you are a lawyer. NO ONE CARES. Half the people on dcum are lawyers. It's a damn job, not a super power.

A lot of you are apparently really bad lawyers. So, yeah, I’ll repeat myself and speak more slowly if I have to.

Considering all the information we have about you, I conclude that you have issues with empathy and social intelligence, so I discount your opinion.

PP. I'm one of the people who thinks he's totally unqualified with all these accusations, but yeah, I could imagine that scenario too.

Because he has stood up to Trump and the Republican party and protected his client. So what if she's a porn star - she still deserves fair representation and the fact that he did such a good job for her made me think better of him.

THere don't seem to be many men around with cojones these days - ask Ms. Hirono!

And yet, for someone who grew up in the area, in the prep school bubble, it's entirely believable. Because it has happened many times. Because I've seen it happen. Because I know so many smarmy lawyers just like Kav who have done the same.

THIS x10000. It’s like out of some old school leftist propaganda playbook. It’s like it jumped from Jews-are-kinda-weird to Jews-are-sacrificing-children-and-drinking-their-blood.

What's wrong with you. Lets us go with your argument. Based on statements by multiple people Kavanaugh there are possibility that

1. Kavanaugh is totally innocent
2. Kavanaugh is complicit to gang-rape, sexual assault and attempted rape, if not rapist worse.

There is no harm in denying the SCJ position to Kavanaugh, even if 1 is true, because as a country we have denied many eminent judges the same position for various reasons. The country does not owe him/Trump/GOP a SC position.

However, if there is any truth to 2, it would do enormous damage to the SC, along with enromous damage every girl (and boy) who might be feeling scared to report horrible incidences against powerful people.

There is a middle ground too, if the party in power is willing. If they want to they can open a FBI investigation to get to the borrom of these allegations by forcing everyone named in news report, testimony and statements to provide interview under oath. That way we do not sit a very tainted person on SC and yet do not refuse him a SC seat based on "mere" allegations.

This is a frightening thought - that there is “no harm” in denying this person a SCOTUS seat if he is innocent.
So, we are OK with any accusation - with no real evidence - to cause any person to lose an opportunity to which that person is eminently qualified?
You are ok with mere accusations to ruin a person’s life? Because, that is exactly what is happening here.

The truth is.... if these people were REALLY interested in FBI investigations, they could have gone about doing so in the proper way. They could have brought their claims forward, when this nominee was announced, presented their claims to the committee and had the FBI investigate as part of their background investigation. But, that was not the goal here. The goal was to present allegations, after the hearings were done, to delay and attempt to derail this process.
I can predict what would happen with an FBI investigation - they would find no evidence to support or deny the claims made. Because there is none. They would collect statements, present them to the committee, and we would be exactly where we are now. Except months down the road because the DEMOCRATS have chosen to play games and not follow regular procedure.

Was it frightening to you too that merruick Garland was denied a Supreme Court seat?

I supported Merrick Garland, and this has nothing to do with Merrick Garland's situation. Kavanaugh is being accused of sexual assault. Garland was denied his seat because of political machinery.

This says it all. The vagueness:.

"The allegations are far more specific relating to Brett Kavanaugh's conduct towards women in general -- Many of these women ended up gang raped unfortunately."

It is hard to know just exactly who raped you when you are drifting in and out of consciousness. How helpful, to those who want the truth, that the LINE OF GUYS WAITING FOR THEIR TURN had some regulars.

Alternately, the Republicans were so blinded by his rabid partisanship, hard right-wing views, and extreme views on executive power that they nominated a candidate with a deeply troubling personal and professional background, because they didn't do their due diligence.

Which scenario is more likely?

Sure, it may have happened, but it’s about as likely that YOU are guilty of sexual misconduct as it is that Kavanaugh is. Unless you want growing up in the 80s to disqualify, you know, everyone.
