Not sure which came first: did leaving the DA for the ECNL cause VDA to collapse, or did they realize that they were collapsing, so they left the DA?

Rumor is that the top guy at VDA is now associated with ECNL somehow

03 age group next year looking to get recruited. Looking to get on a good team i suspect. Causing movement once the top two kids left.

Im completely guessing

Top 3. All 3 of their top scorers will be somewhere else next year.

Does anyone know when FCV will be done picking its rosters?

How many will they put on a roster? When you say crowded, like 20? 22?

If you’ve read this board, or even pay a little attention to the area’s youth soccer landscape, you’d know it’s not a rumor. Mike Cullina was recently chosen to head up US Club Soccer, of which ECNL (and their clubs) is the most important member. The DA is administered by USSF. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/clubs/youth-boys/mike-cullina-appointed-as-chairman-of-us-club-soccer-board-of-directors/

Also not a rumor, Mike almost took the technical director job at Vienna a few years back. I wonder how different the local soccer landscape would look if he had.

DA rosters are maxed at 20. 18 can dress on game day.
ECNL rosters are bigger. But only 18 (?) can dress on gameday

ECNL can have dual rostered players. Kids primarily play on 2nd team though.

DA has developmental players. Dps primaiy play for 2nd team though.

Spirit was given an exemption to have more then 20 kids on 04 roster because they were a startup and didn't have a 2nd team for DPs. That of course changes next year with announcment of their EDP team.

So, the move from DA to ECNL wasn't for the kids development mind? We've been bambulzzed

Oh wow! That last part I did not know. I was wondering why they had rostered so many, but that makes a lot of sense. But MD isn’t doing an EDP team, so will they continue to have an exemption?

Christian Lavers is the ECNL President and Strategic and Technical Consultant for US Club Soccer

Mike Cullina is offered a paid position on the US Club Soccer's Board of Directors.

VDA magically leaves GDA for ECNL.

Got it.

So VDA must be scrambling for players. I heard their 02 and older groups were weak anyways. And their 03 team is in trouble, even if only the top 3 scorers left (which is like, what 30 goals between them?)

Sounds like ECNL in Northern VA will be struggling next year.

That’s a big generalization! For all DA and all ENCL teams in NOVA, it will be team and age group specific. There will be some strong teams and some weak teams in both leagues.
