The Golden Bachelor

This season the GB reminds me a lot of Arie's season of Bach.

Remember, Arie didn't just tell Becca Kufrin that he was going to pick her... he ACTUALLY PICKED HER. And then a few weeks later, he changed his mind.

Lauren (like Theresa) said she had a hard time being herself with a camera facing her. During the show, Arie had to pick b/t Becca (who was outgoing, energetic, and came across well to the TV audience) and Lauren (who came across as quiet, guarded, awkward in front of the cameras).

Yes, America was furious at Arie for breaking Becca's heart and changing his mind. But, ultimately, Arie knew what was best for Arie. And when the cameras were off, Lauren knew what worked for her (i.e. Arie). So, they knew each other better than we knew them through the lens of a camera... and it has worked out quite well.

Nobody knows what a relationship is really like between two people. If they (Gerry and Theresa) think they are happy, and no one is getting abused, then who are we to say that it won't work or that he's ____ and she's ____.

Live and let live.

Yes, Gerry promised more than he ultimately was willing to do. But, better that he realized it before giving her the final rose (like Arie), and even before she came down to the platform all dressed up!

Gabi (from Zach's season) had to take a "no thanks" on the platform after he gave her every reason to think it was her in the end (i.e. he broke his "no sex" promise with her, surely giving her reason to believe she was IT). Gabi survived. Zach and Kaity survived it.

Same with Jason and Molly. Jason promised more to his first pick, and even proposed and took it back. In the end, they made the right choice for them.

Just because the producers for GB gave the audience NO REASON to root for Theresa doesn't mean that Theresa is the worst person and Gerry had no connection with her. We only know what the producers want us to see. It's not "reality." It's the producers pulling certain clips to make a show that has enough drama that people will watch it. The producers care about ratings first. Surely there were plenty of times when Gerry and Theresa were laughing or having a good time. But the producers mainly showed clips where Theresa is saying "I really love you..." over and over.

Gerry and Theresa made the right decision for themselves.

Leslie will end up getting some benefits out of her pain.

That's how this industry works.

Terrible what you are describing. GB is my first rodeo, not terribly taken in at all. I thought he was unappealling, drama king, never knew any man who cried incessantly like he did, seemed put on and fake. Women were pleasant and probably far better than he deserved. Dont think will watch again. Seems inauthentic.
Seniors deserve better.

Leslie did not BUY a $60k dress. She was provided with various dresses for the finale. One was in favt $60k, but that's not the dress she picked. Leslie was just confused/mistaken about the price on the dress she picked (per the producers). She didn't pay $60k. And she didn't puck a $60k dress.

Yeah, the dress in the clip definitely did not look like a $60k dress. And though blue, it did not match the color of their eyes. Kind of a strange thing to say.

It will also be wildly inappropriate for a second wedding. Theresa has zero fashion sense and even less understanding of class. Remember that romper she wore in Costa Rica?

Wildly inappropriate for a second wedding? You know she is a widow right? Not twice divorced or something?

It’s still a second wedding regardless of how she gets there. Do you think a spouse dying voids their wedding? Such an odd reply. Are you the same person who believes there will be world wide coverage of this upcoming wedding (compared to the wedding of Princess Diana) and A list celebrities in attendance?

I also read a Hollywood article stating they are expecting world wide viewership of GB wedding and will be a massive event. Makes sense, everybody turned it into that with all the social media. I think I read comment was meant to be an exaggerated remark comparing to Diana’s wedding.
I don’t get the inappropriate comment, ridiculous.

Yes, Gerry was ridiculous telling every woman on the planet he loved them, they were the one. How can you believe one word that comes out of that man’s mouth?

I think he believed his own bullshit

He laughed at everybody, and everybody’s comments about him when he himself acted like such a buffoon. These great women deserved a much better bachelor.

I think this might be considered a personality disorder.

Not in the world of Bachelor/GB/Bachelorette.

The producers impress on the lead that this is THEIR journey to find love. They must TRUST the process. Immerse themselves in each relationship to figure out if that person is the one. When a lead is relatively naive, and believes that the journey really is about THEM, they usually end up minimizing the impact they are having on the contestants. Some leads have the foresight to consider the fact that they hold the feelings of several other people in their hands. Some do not think that deeply about the collateral damage b/c they are drinking the kool-aid that this is THEIR journey. Exhibit A: Clayton Eckard. He wasn't a bad guy at the beginning, but you could tell that he was too focused on himself and giving NO consideration to how much his actions affected other people. The producers encourage the leads to essentially be selfish and self-centered. The producers are there to make good television that gets ratings (i.e. the messy-er the better!). The producers are not there to help the lead be ethical and considerate.

I believe Gerry when he says that he tried to be "all in" on each relationship when he was with each person. He was essentially "trying on" what it felt like (FOR HIM) to be fully on board with a commitment to each woman. That's actually not a bad strategy FOR HIM to find out which relationship feels "right" in a time-compressed situation where he has to compare the relationships and choose one. It's a super bad strategy for the women because they are taking his "trying it on" as though he really meant it. He was so focused on HIS journey to find the right person, that he didn't give consideration to the women having a journey as well. A smart lead takes the women's feelings into consideration as well as his own. Gerry isn't the first lead to focus exclusively on his journey to the exclusion of the women. He won't be the last. The producers encourage that.

I hate women throwing themselves at these men on this show, for what? If you are out at a bar and see it, it looks appalling and so desperate. Should always be a bachelorette and let the men do the graveling like it is suppose to be. The women are so stupid to do that, what is the matter with them.
Be the prize that you are. These women falling over Gerry was so sad, they were far better than him in his adolescent dating deception.
