Sorry to start off in scrooge mode, but the Xmas letter thread got me thinking of what is ahead......
I'll start: we have people who ask for Christmas cards every year. They say they like our ideas. They never send us a Christmas card in return. Guess what? This year I will gladly consult, but not for free
A type of card that everyone hates receiving: anything with parents accolades added: "isn't so and so wonderful, brilliant, adorable?" Guess what, we can see the photo. If they are that adorable, you will hear it, trust me! We love hearing WHAT the kids are doing, but NOT parents commentary, PLEASE! Anyone else? |
| I really can't stand the ones that are JUST a photo - flat - not folded - sometimes not even printed on! especially if it's ONLY the child - especially if it's ONLY a newborn. Once I received one of these and DH threw away the envelope and I had no idea who it was from. But that's not the only reason I detest this kind of card- to me it just represents the most minimal effort possible. Yes, I have children. yes I work. Yes, i go to a lot of trouble to send a few, carefully planned /chosen cards. I might include a nice family photo if I have one. But it always has an inscription of some kind. It's usually from a vacation or someplace special. I value this much more than a mass mailing that equates a birth announcement. Or duplicates a birth announcement! Yikes! |
| The most annoying cards to me are the ones I have to send. Period. That's why I stopped sending them two years ago. Guess what--I still have all the same friends and relatives. My life is not worse without this hassle. In fact it is much easier now. Makes me enjoy the holidays so much more. |
| I do e-cards. I don't care if it's tacky, too techie or whatever. I can't stand wasting so much paper on stamps, envelopes and cards. Cards which no one keeps! |
Why do you bother? E cards ARE tacky. Nobody wants one. It is not a substitute for a real card. It is funny that you admit it is tacky and still you don't care. It is like saying "I send Chia Pets and fruitcakes to all my relatives. I don't care if they are tacky or taste awful. If I sent you a "real" gift you might not like it anyway so at least I am not wasting my time." |

I love this. In fact this year I think I will send cards with a picture of a Chia Pet. Thanks for the idea
|
| I hate the cheapie photo cards printed on photo paper. |
I hate e-cards. That's all my SMIL sends and I don't even open the messages. I bet her bio grandkids get real cards with a check inside them, or maybe an actual gift. |
| Anything with glitter on it. Even if it's glued on it comes off and makes a mess. |

OMG I would love to get a chia pet. Seriously. We find them hilarious and it would brighten my daay..cha cha cha chia...
Well call me crazy, but I save all photo cards and love to look back at them. I look forward to seeing cute photos of my friend's kids. Well call me crazy AND sucky too. I used to write thoughtful notes to everyone, but I drove myself nuts. Nobody else seems to do it and I still consider them friends so I only write notes to a few people. I have done the photo of the kids without us because I looked awful at the time, I hated the extra weight I couldn't seem to lose and while my husband looked great I thought people would find it strange if I put him and the kids in the card without me. I always do the cheap 4x8 photopaper card. Why spend over a dollar per card if you don't have a lot of money to spare? I'm already looking forward to checking my mailbox and getting real mail instead of bills. The cards I HATE are from annoying people complaining that we never see them or blah blah. Send cheer and don't nag. Hmmm guess this is why you never see us, you bring us down... |

PP again...I'm sure someone will post about the goofy cards where everyone dresses alike, but I LOVE seeing those. So cheesy and so much fun!!! Bring em on...
Oh and I LOVE the ones where a kid is flipping out on Santa's lap. |
| I love that DCUM manages to get itself worked up over something as inconsequential as the type of Christmas cards they receive (and make themselves send out even though they hate doing so) two months out from Christmas. I would love to see you people have a real problem. |
I agree with absolutely everything in this post. |
| The Christmas treee matching pajama pose - NO!!!!! Don't do it!!!!! |
