DA vs ECNL vs everything else

The 04 roster size was a disaster this year. It was too big, and because of that. In order to get everyone playing time, 04s routinely play up. Now, I realize that Spirit had no choice once they decided to take on so many girls, but it wasn't good for the 04s and it was even worse for the 03s. They can't possible compete when they have 04s routinely on their roster. I felt sorry for them. But next year should get better. Everyone knew year one would be hard because Spirit was starting from scratch - especially on the VA side.

The 04s played on the 03s because the 03s were short. It wasn't an experiment. It was logistics. Don't expect that to be the norm.

Even when the 03s weren't short, they were saddled with a lot of 04s. It hindered the development of the 03 team tremendously.[/quote

Reality check in order

That’s really sad that you think what happened this year is funny. You are probably an 04 parent who thinks he is raising the next Marta. No other club would have played any of our 04s up. None. Spirit did what it had to do, but don’t be delusional: when Spirit plays eg Penn Fusion, FCV, etc the 04s always get exposed. It’s not their fault. Some of them are talented for their AGE but this playing up frenzy is out of control. It’s not shameful to play in your own age group.

And my DD isn’t even an 04 or 03 for that matter.

Wow. Lots of parents who don't understand the philosophy, much less the basic rostering structure of the DA.

Now I AM LMFAO. So this IS you making it about your DD. I was just guessing. Sure, believe what you want. Even a monkey thinks her child is a deer. Some of the kids playing up apparently couldn’t even make the FCV roster in their OWN age group, but they are good enough to play up at Spirit? Hahaha! That’s fine. You’re not worth wasting my time on. It’s not like our kids will ever play together. Thankfully, not because of her mind you. Because of you. Sign8ng off. Feel free to sing her praises in my absence.

Don't worry about that thin-skinned tool, he takes the bait on everything. He's proven repeatedly that he doesn't know anything about DA, and is a sock puppet who posts under multiple IDs. You made the exact point I was worried about earlier. Spirit sticking a bunch of 06s with the 05s because of the offer letter and not enough 05s committing and too many 06s. My DD wants to play against 06s. But I get why Spirit needs the flexibility too. Hopefully your post is legit and not the sock puppet at work again. LOL.

^^^What makes you think your DD would be asked to play-up?

What is the basic rostering?

One of the basic rostering principles of the DA — Not just Spirit — is that girls who need more of a developmental challenge than they can get in their own age group are often played up, whether permanently rostered or as guests. There are several 04s playing on the SPirit VA 03 team permanently (frankly, I think they belong there and they’re not the girls people are complaining about) and then there are several who have played up to gap-fill on the 03 team. The Spirit VA 03 team was in many ways the weakest of the SPirit teams due to lots of factors, many of which have been hashed out on this board.

For what it’s worth, if the 04 girls who played 90% of their games with the 03s had played on the 04 roster, I bet the 04s would be higher in the standings than they are now . . . But the rostering philosophy and the developmental framework of the DA is that it’s about the girls’ individual development, and certain 04 girls needed the challenge of playing against different competition.

Having seen the talent that came out for ID sessions, I believe next year is going to be a very good year for SPirit VA 03s, 04s, 05s. And the 04s and 05s who don’t make it onto the A squads will have the opportunity to stay with the club and play on the EDP U16 team, a really smart choice by the club to retain still-developing talent as the pyramid narrows with the dual age bands. First year had some growing pains, but many of those seem to be working themselves out.

Not the DCUM SP (sock puppet). Thanks. You seem to be confirming some of this. Being part of Academy and playing up for the right player of course makes complete developmental sense. But playing up to make sure the numbers work between the various age groups if you got too many acceptances in one age and not the other then wish that was more transparent and explained. Calling Tom won't help until he knows who accepts and who doesn't. Anyone asking for more time? Still open are the coaching assignments.
