ECNL moving to school year part 2

Eveytime this happens an of age player gets screwed out of their opportunity to get recruited. Keep in mind that the older player trying to cheat by playing down could have played on a team with players their age. They're just choosing not to and taking your kids opportunity.

This will not happen in the 12-month age group. What you described only happens in the MLS biobanding program. It is basically for players who cannot play in their own age group, to play down and rob the opportunity of player in his correct age group.

With the new 8/1-7/31 SY grouping 1 and in rare cases 2 months of players playing down with a grade lower team is possible.

Yes, this is most certainty possible in ECNL now.

But you also have the GY losers that are trying to push for Junior and Senior year teams to go GY. Which directly screws over players that are the correct grade in showcases.

Parents dont be stupid and dont let older players play down with your teams. You paid for the opportunity not them.

How are people posting on a forum pushing for anything? Also after US soccer deciding to switch for BY to SY without any thought or care of what parents or coaches really want to do what makes you think any of us have a real say.

I get you hate GY and I haven’t heard anyone say it’s a good idea but if ECNL wants to do it it’s because that’s what they want not what a handful of parents want.

Switching from BY to SY is also going to screw over players. There is no perfect system that gives everyone an equal opportunity.
Regardless of what the age group system is tell your kids to compete and work as hard as they can.

Victim mentality is for losers.

So MLSN is for losers? Not sure if you realize that’s the top youth boys league in the country?

My point had nothing to do with GY? Only that MLSN allows kids to play down? And many team take these players…
You’re just a crybaby who lost the BY not switching argument and can’t handle it anymore.

You misunderstand it. He means the way that players play down in the younger age group, where some players are more than 12 months younger. So he targets MLSN bio banding, not MLSN in general.

This thinking is so off. I've personally seen many examples where a Aug-Dec kid is in the HIGHER grade OR where a Jan-July is in the LOWER grade. These decisions, BTW, had to do with maturity and academics, not sports. This shift doesn't help any of them and underscores how grade is less of a factor than people believe and kids playing against other grades will continue.

Changing from BY to SY trades 3 months of players playing up a grade for 1 month of players playing down a grade.

Which option do you think will result in better players?

Which option do you think will result in more money for clubs?

It's more than the baked-in misalignments, tho. All the cases on one team I am aware of (3) are parents who either redshirted OR the reverse (which still happens even though no longer the IT thing to do like it was back in the 80s and 90s).

I think globally the change is good for youth soccer BUT still causes problems for individuals AND might be a unfortunate curveball for some during this transition while perhaps helping others.

The same number of players are born first or born last no matter when the cutoff is defined if its always a 365 day window.

The benefit of 8/1-7/31 is no trapped players in 8th grade.

The problem with 8/1-7/31 is some August birthday players (depending on school district) can play down on a team with mostly players a grade below them in school.

Just to be fair...

The benefit of 1/1-12/31 is that the dates are complely seperate from school which means grade in School doesn't come into play. When you mix grade in school with teams you open the door to hold backs and regrades trying to play down for wins. "It's not fair my 16 year old freshman cant play on a team with kids in their grade." or "My kid is homeschooled so we'll just pick the grade team we think they should play on."

Sorry, but you reduce BUT not eliminate 8th-grade trapped kids. This is because of grade misalignment, because states are different OR if parents don't have the kid in the grade most do.

Name a scenario where kids are trapped now? There are none. If you are an august birthday in a 9-1 state you can play up. Therefore not trapped. So sick of people saying there are still trapped players, there aren’t.
