Same PP is completely ignoring the 5 "friends" who disappeared over the horizon before the dragnet caught them in DR. LE has stated the "friends" are also not suspects. Because the boy is the last person to have seen her, he is the official POI, but again, he is not a suspect.

Not trying to say any of these young people are guilty of anything nefarious. Stating the facts. Another fact same PP is ignoring is this resort has a history of staff committing acts such as spiking drinks, raping women walking to their rooms, and so on. Go read reviews and stop being an idiot.

Why is this PP trying so hard to demonize this boy, and gets furious and stoops to name calling when she gets called out? Very interesting reaction.

No one here has authority to do anything. LE thinks the boy is guilty and they know more than any keyboard warriors here.
he would be in jail if they would have found body.

Hello from D.R. and Thanks for the video!. Have you seen the video from the bar?, that video shows that these kids were extremely intoxicated before going to the beach. I want to talk about a couple of points just to put things in perspective:
1-) The figure "person of interest" does not exist here and has not been used in this case by the local authorities, I am not sure way the international press keep mentioning it.
2-) Joshua Riibe has not been interrogated without a lawyer while in custody, he was asked questions while in the hotel, the beach, etc. but no in custody. Once in custody, his lawyers were present and you can bet they know English (unlike me, sorry about my bad English by the way).
3-) For Joshua Riibe there is a big problem right now: The new Attorney General has taken the case to herself and is now the person directing the investigation, she is fierce, like very fierce, the kind of person (this is my opinion only) that think of you of guilty and you have to prove her wrong. She is extremely loved here because she was the main persecutor of the corrupt politicians of the previous government that ended with a lot of prominent people in jail. She interrogated him in his hotel room for 6 hours.
4-) About the confiscated passport, Dominican authorities don't use this to prevent you to leave the country using the airport (for that the norm is a "migration alert" and you won't be able to leave, trust me, no matter if you have your passport) this is more to prevent a person to leave the island crossing the border with Haiti and then take a flight from there.
5) If you need some example of how fierce the Attorney General is, here is one: last night at 2 a.m., Joshua Riibe was taken to the beach to recreate the events of that sad day. Think about that for a second, 2 a.m.!.

More power to the attorney general . Hope she gets this girl justice.

I think someone is desperately trying to keep suspicion on the boy. Someone familiar with DCUM.

Why? That is the question.

Because the family is important. And there’s no way their daughter could have made a series of bad choices (getting wasted, swimming in the ocean in the dark wasted, etc) that may have resulted in her demise. So it has to be someone else’s fault.

What do you mean the family is important?

IKR. Every so often a PP proclaims the "importance" of this family but none of us have ever heard of them and the PP never explains. Well, PP?

But here is mine --

I think this guy is making up that he saved her. I think they got hit by a wave, and he could only save himself. I don't think he intentionally didn't save her, but I think it all happened fast and he was wasted. His heroic story and then he simply passes out immediately isn't ringing true.

I think he is making up he saved her because he feels terribly, and because of the backlash and guilt and how he would be perceived for not saving her.

This guy strikes me as just a midwestern nice, a little bit of a doofus kind of kid. He seemed that way in videos. She was probably prettier than most girls he dated.

The fact he stayed around and cooperated and is still cooperating (though have no idea why certain questions are apparently off limits), says a lot. His Dad is there also trying to help.

None of this explains though why he didn't immediately tell the authorities.

Agreed 👍

Body should have washed up already. Might have to start digging under the sand.

DP. But the whole point of having a good reputation is that in times like this it counts.

Drunk college student very late at night digs a hole in the sand deep enough for a body then covers up the hole in a way that leaves no trace and also conceals all smells from a dead body. Good theory!

This is not India. Doesn’t matter how “important” her family is.

What if he didn't do anything? Torture produces false confessions. Sleep deprivation and stress are pressure tactics.

Most likely scenario is that she drowned because she drunkenly entered treacherous water at night. The guy will be judge harshly for the rest of his life. And the girlfriends will go about their lives as if nothing happened.

Agree. The silence of the girls is weird and this was not the guy’s fault. Terrible, convoluted accident with many bad decisions, but not his fault.

Omg stop. He’s a perfectly normal white Midwest jock, who tend to date the skinny cute Midwest white girls. The gal was maybe exotic to him, but she isn’t some gorgeous gal and he was in some trance.

I almost drown while swimming drunk around their age. You get so fatigued so quickly. There is no way a young boy who was blackout drunk remembers the play by play of what happened. Instead of blaming him, blame the bars who over served these kids to the point of blackout drunk intoxication.
