Right. We need to hear from others as well. Girlfriends, bartenders, other beach goers.

We don’t. LE has.

It’s an ongoing investigation not binging Netflix.

Hello from D.R. and Thanks for the video!. Have you seen the video from the bar?, that video shows that these kids were extremely intoxicated before going to the beach. I want to talk about a couple of points just to put things in perspective:
1-) The figure "person of interest" does not exist here and has not been used in this case by the local authorities, I am not sure way the international press keep mentioning it.
2-) Joshua Riibe has not been interrogated without a lawyer while in custody, he was asked questions while in the hotel, the beach, etc. but no in custody. Once in custody, his lawyers were present and you can bet they know English (unlike me, sorry about my bad English by the way).
3-) For Joshua Riibe there is a big problem right now: The new Attorney General has taken the case to herself and is now the person directing the investigation, she is fierce, like very fierce, the kind of person (this is my opinion only) that think of you of guilty and you have to prove her wrong. She is extremely loved here because she was the main persecutor of the corrupt politicians of the previous government that ended with a lot of prominent people in jail. She interrogated him in his hotel room for 6 hours.
4-) About the confiscated passport, Dominican authorities don't use this to prevent you to leave the country using the airport (for that the norm is a "migration alert" and you won't be able to leave, trust me, no matter if you have your passport) this is more to prevent a person to leave the island crossing the border with Haiti and then take a flight from there.
5) If you need some example of how fierce the Attorney General is, here is one: last night at 2 a.m., Joshua Riibe was taken to the beach to recreate the events of that sad day. Think about that for a second, 2 a.m.!.

Same PP is completely ignoring the 5 "friends" who disappeared over the horizon before the dragnet caught them in DR. LE has stated the "friends" are also not suspects. Because the boy is the last person to have seen her, he is the official POI, but again, he is not a suspect.

Not trying to say any of these young people are guilty of anything nefarious. Stating the facts. Another fact same PP is ignoring is this resort has a history of staff committing acts such as spiking drinks, raping women walking to their rooms, and so on. Go read reviews and stop being an idiot.

Why is this PP trying so hard to demonize this boy, and gets furious and stoops to name calling when she gets called out? Very interesting reaction.

And same pp makes ridiculous off putting comments.

Any of the numerous US-based LE currently in DR able to protect his rights?

And yet you run here to squeal every time a translator claims “different” versions of events. Why have we only heard about one person’s questioning? “Friends” bartenders, beach-combers, lots of others.

This case is likely to be a dead end IMHO.

Even if he killed her, it was likely via drowning. Even IF the body is recovered (seems very unlikely at this point) they won’t be able to prove it. If he strangled her (really only the other option here), it could be proven with recovery of the body- most likely. But that is IF the body is recovered. It probably won’t be.

All these other scenarios are incredibly far fetched (another party drugging her, or trafficking her etc).

Either way- he will likely be living under suspicion for the rest of his life over this incident.

I read early in this thread that Sudiksha’s family returned home last week. Still hell.

We all have our takes on this, and it is complete speculation by all of us.

But here is mine --

I think this guy is making up that he saved her. I think they got hit by a wave, and he could only save himself. I don't think he intentionally didn't save her, but I think it all happened fast and he was wasted. His heroic story and then he simply passes out immediately isn't ringing true.

I think he is making up he saved her because he feels terribly, and because of the backlash and guilt and how he would be perceived for not saving her.

This guy strikes me as just a midwestern nice, a little bit of a doofus kind of kid. He seemed that way in videos. She was probably prettier than most girls he dated.

The fact he stayed around and cooperated and is still cooperating (though have no idea why certain questions are apparently off limits), says a lot. His Dad is there also trying to help.

None of this explains though why he didn't immediately tell the authorities.

You misunderstand the system, he has 2 lawyers for that.

He is a POI in LE inquiries, DR, IS and Indian. They are investigating a death.

Definitely. Imagine getting back on the plane to come home without your kid? I’m not sure I could physically get myself to get off the bathroom floor.

I didn’t mean that as a slight against her parents. Just putting myself in their shoes. How awful.

No one here has authority to do anything. LE thinks the boy is guilty and they know more than any keyboard warriors here.
