looks like their new indoor facility has opened according to the club IG. Not something a club on their way down would do….hmmm….

Did team/club fees change because of the new facility? We had declined a spot on a lower BSC boys team because it was just so much more than at a smaller club that played the same division, had the same number of practices, and covered more tournaments. It felt like the price difference was paying for the BSC name/brand.

11s will win NA. 10s and 09s taking Union approach with large rosters. Will be interesting to see how 10s work together between new players, coach and favoritism. 09s are going to turn it around this year with new players and coach. Maybe not playoffs but will certainly improve. 08/07s are going to likely fall off some with USYNT player graduating early but will still be good. 12s could be playoff contender as well. It’s possible 5 age groups make playoffs this year!!!

PF/PDA Blue might have something to say about the 11s like always.

We’ll see. The 11s could be the best team Bethesda has ever had. A few new additions is all they needed.

They have 8-9 trapped players...

Bodes well for the 2012s this fall

The 2012’s coach was disgusting at Coppermine this weekend. Don’t know how anyone can stand to play for that jack***.

Team meetings should be done by now. If not, email ET. YDP camp is next week.

How popular is this camp, my DD is already in the day camp and has some supplemental evening practices(not BSC related) next week... trying to figure out if should sign her up for this too (instead of attending the supplemental practices).

Keep the supplemental training. In the past it has been a small field, crowded space for multiple teams. Essentially a team training and a huge money grab.

Agree with the above. The “mandatory” camp is a pointless money grab that a lot of folks have learned to skip.

Fees did not change but you made the right call. Most kids should develop on small clubs and get more playing time and then jump over to a big club if they max out at the small club.

The coach for the 2012 BSC girls who played in the Coppermine tournament. Charm city super cup. It is unclear how he is still employed at Bethesda. I have a kid on another team but played for BSC back in the day, and that coach is bad news. I looked him up after I saw his antics, and seems like people bring him up concerns about him on this forum often but the higher ups don’t seem to care. My playing career after BSC went pretty far and I’m not a stranger to tough coaches but this one (SC) is reportable (in my opinion).

SC continues to coach all 3 BSC teams from previous years because the players and parents want him as their coach. Nobody fires a coach because the randos on the forum don't like him. People complain but in the end they choose what benefits them the most. And if coach's personality is not on the top of your list, you learn to tolerate it and focus on the rest.

“Someone’s” kid is the opposite gender and lives far away from Bethesda so wouldn’t be with the club anyway, but good try with the pathetic reply. And by the way, the team in question lost 3-1 to Coppermine in the final. Your reply is just a deflection, which seems to be a pattern whenever this awful coach is brought up.

SC is an ugly person no matter how many people here defend him. Many turn their head to his tarnished reputation in NJ because he turned around the Bethesda 08 team. The 12s are decent but not great.

Leave his team or get on his bad side and see how college recruitment goes for you. Sorry, but he is a not a good person. It’s not my place to go into detail but just know, he does have a reputation.

His tactics and development are respected on the other hand. That is the draw. He is well connected and if your DD can tolerate his belittling, chances are your daughter will end up playing D1. College coaches know if your DD daughter can handle this coach, they can handle the next level.

But like I said, the man is not kind, and will go out of his way to hurt your daughter if you leave his team/club. He has gotten in physical fights at games including Jeff Cup just his short time at Bethesda. What he did in NJ is worse…

Pick your poison.

This is what all the parents tell themselves. The truth is, there are no other local options. Potomac is not good enough yet or in a competitive enough league to draw players over, and many families don’t want to drive to VA. So everyone is stuck. Sure, some people may like SC, just like some people might like KL. But SC is not developing them in some amazing, irreplaceable way. The girls were already talented and put in the work outside of his sessions. The culture is often toxic but people tolerate him because, again, there are not local alternatives. He will never be fired because the BSC coaches are bros. People can say they “want him” as coach but mainly they don’t want to go to VA, and the club knows and loves this fact.
