Yes, they were recording the disintegration of the ship. We are using video from their trip in 2022 to compare to previous images to see the changes that are occurring. This information is being used to estimate the end of the Titanic, which could be as soon as 2030. That's science, not just tourism. |
It is usually the least accomplished people who mock the credentials of high achievers. |
He's an expert because he has made dozens and dozens of deep sea dives, including to three times the depth of the Titanic in the Mariana Trench. |
| I think the problem is if they had stopped searching and the submersible was later found floating on the surface with everyone inside suffocated to death.... that would be awful. Extremely unlikely, but still awful. |
+100. They had us all doing an oxygen countdown when they knew the people were long dead. It's equivalent to the husband who kills his wife yet participates in the search to find the missing spouse  |
Why can’t they use an unmanned vehicle to take pictures? |
They can and do. Rush was using tourist fee money to fund his trips down there to do his research. Oceangate is NOT the only institution doing that. |
Because unmanned subs cannot take “Mission Specialists” along with them for $250,000 |
Wow. Now you're accusing the Coast Guard, or maybe the enthralled general public, of murdering the Titan. Just wow. |

A Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer with 8 to 9 years of experience must work more than 4 years to earn the $250K one passenger paid to Richard Stockton Rush III, a descendant of Standard Oil tycoons for one trip on the OceanGate deathtrap.
As someone who comes from a family of first responders, my heart goes out to the family of the Coast Guard men and women who are putting their lives at risk. Taxpayer funded to recover the losses of these narcissistic people. It's really disheartening that they have nothing better to do with their time and money. They could have just watched the movie Titanic for 10th time. I guess it goes to show that even rich people need to have purpose in their lives. If they really wanted a purpose in their lives, they could have done so much with that money. To most people in the U.S., and in the rest of the world, $250K is not an insignificant amount of money. When you use the name Richard Stockton Rush III, it does remind me of Thurston Howell III on Gilligan's Island. |
So why did they do it? |
