I hope not, so unfair to the kids.

I’m so tired of teachers being exploited like this. When a nurse quits their job do we cry “what about the kids?” No! We hire the next person and move on. And when people aren’t applying for the position we give bonuses and extra wages. Have yet to see a single school in the DMV give hazard pay to teachers. In fact, some have actually frozen teacher pay.
Again not blaming the teachers but sympathizing with the kids as in its a shame it’s come to this. I think the teachers are well within their rights.

Then why use the word "unfair"? The teachers, along with the students, seem like the blameless parties in all of this.
because the children are the victims in all of this.

As are the unpaid teachers, who may well have children of their own to support.

Worst is the teachers who have kids enrolled at the school. Talk about a hostage situation.

Yes it s a quit and no benefits for teachers or get laid off and get some sort of government assistance. Parents have sunken cost in all the tuition paid to the school. It's a no win situation if you're a teacher/parent.

Wow. What a bind, if there are any in that situation.

Meanwhile CW is scurrying around in the background filling his sacks with the silverware and chandeliers and screaming "teachers and children first" while he books a private lifeboat for himself..

Missed payroll is constructive dismissal and DC is one of the few jurisdictions where an employee would probably have an easy go of it.

.

Does this mean teachers could stop showing up, and they could file for unemployment just as if they had been fired? That's really good to know. I hope the remaining teachers know it too.

Yes. And they could sue for treble damages due to wage theft, though they’d just be in line with all the other unpaid creditors. This school is truly a disgrace!

I hope families seeking to transfer out have gotten word about admissions and have other options.

I am a parent here, but I am pulling out my child after the end of the school year. However, WSS just sent out an email detailing plans for the '23 FY and assuring that the school will continue to operate.

What are the plans? Where is the money coming from? What makes it believable?

I don’t understand: Parents snd students here have talked about leaving “at the end of the year.” How is the school going to make it to June? How will even the bare minimum get paid for?

So, what are the plans? What will they be doing differently and where are the funds coming from? The current model clearly is not sustainable.

I would walk away and never look back.

Is anyone even planning to return next year? Do you know if any new students have been accepted for next year?

What tales will they tell to get people to sign on as student body, faculty and staff Number Three (at school that's only existed for three years)? For the current school year, they must have claimed that the "global school" aspect still existed, since the departure of the Chinese seemed to be news to everybody just a few months ago. But it doesn't seem likely they could get away with that now. And if they're not "the world's first global school" any more, what the heck are they? CW can't pelt people with all his grandiose prospectuses if the "global school" angle doesn't exist any more.

Plus, the dream of having thousands of wealthy parents beating down their doors is surely dead For a couple years now they've had to bribe a lot of families, just to create a student body in the low hundreds. But for that huge building they need at least many hundreds and probably more than a thousand, mostly pulling the full freight CW originally announced, to keep the thing standing.

And who the heck is their new landlord and why would that person/organization want to retain the tenant that drove the last landlord into foreclosure....and who seems to be flailing even more violently now than back when bills were just starting to go unpaid?

Seems sketchy.

Maybe they’ll pay students to attend.

Unpaid teachers and students with stipends. That would be a disruptive model…
