RP6 is the Tower Oaks neighborhood - they are not in the walk zone. All of those children will be bused.

What about Rp2, since that zone seems to be the big sticking point, and whether they are truly walkable or not.

Bus service to RP6 will decrease by 3min if they go to RM5. They do not have walk thru access to RM5 as their only 2 access roads go to Maryland Ave
.
RP2 is all walkable. The entire area is less than 0.8 miles and is neighborhood roads with sidewalks. No bus service

Most people in rp2 want to go to the new school. They just don't waste their time on dcum telling you about it.

For God’s sake, those kids are already in RP right now, we are not busing them anywhere else...just admit that having them will make you not in line with your <7% Potomac neighborhood..

It is definitely not "wonderful walking distance", it is some times miserable..

And what about kids in those same circumstances who live in Twinbrook? Do you advocate busing them to a different school, too? There are community support measures that can be put in place (both official MCPS ones and informal ones from neighbors) so that children do not need to walk alone and in bad weather. That is not a reason to bus children to a completely different school.

Exactly. What about Wheaton, Silver Spring, Kensington, etc... Do you all advocate we bus them away from their walkable schools?

Also, the furthest walk for RP2 is 0.8 miles. That is a little more than 3 times around a track. It isn't miles away, uphill, in 5ft of snow kinda crap.

WG made lots of speeches citing neighborhood school and lots of parents cheered it.

Why can't RP parents make the argument about neighborhood having less than 7% FARMs? We also pay taxes and probably pay higher taxes than other parts of RM cluster. It's not fair to get high FARMS rate in RP cluster just to balance things out. We are already helping entire cluster in many ways. First email from RP PTA was spot on.

It is all about the numbers dummy.

(RP1+RP3+RP4) are only 217 students , white and 0% FARMs . Your aging population can never sustain a neighborhood school so you reserve to busing children from Gaithersburg .

Shut down RP and move the kids to RMES#5 !!!!

DP.. I live in HH. There are a few black, hispanic, and asian families in the areas. Please stop with your ignorant posts. Our bus stop is literally like the UN.

Unfortunately MCPS stats don't support the UN claim

Stop speaking for RP2, go and ask if it is better to spend 15 minutes walking with a child to the new school under the elements and then another 30 to the metro instead of a short bus ride to RP.

Apologize for above. I was confusing RP6 and RP7

RP6 will not be walkable because there is no access to the neighborhood and the kids can not walk along side or across a main road (Wootton) I personally think they should put a walkable access road to Royal Oak Dr to Cabin John Parkway and make that small section walkable.

The entire rest of RP6 below Wootton has no housing but will have over 300 units built starting next this Spring. Near the B3/RP6 section. They will have to be bussed due to Wootton.

If Tower Oaks will be anything like Potomac Park ( right across 270 ) , they will be 2.3 children coming to the new school

DP... I feel like we are talking to a wall here. It's not abot NOT wanting Rp2. It's about promoting proximity as much as possible for EVERYONE, which was one of the key things that the community pushed for. If RP2 were closer to RP than ES#5 then we'd be pushing for RP2 to stay at RP. I don't know how many times we have to say this. The majority of parents in the entire RM cluster chose proximity as the most important thing. So why is this a #1 priority for everyone, and that's ok, but not for RP? We had a speaker who was for keeping RP2 in RP but only for the purpose of FARMs rate. How do most in RP2 feel? Do they want to leave or stay in RP? If they want to stay in RP, I don't think anyone in RP other than FG area (because that would mean added commute for them, which again, goes against the #1 priority for most parents, ie proximity) gives a fig.

I live in HH. It has zero bearing on me and my kids if RP2 stays or goes. My kids will be in MS by then. But, I think it's completely wrong for people to claim that proximity should be the most important thing, EXCEPT when it comes to RP and their 7% FARMs rate.

I really hope that the person or people who keep posting this sh1te are trolls just looking to stir the pot, and people actually don't think RP folks are trying to push anyone out. That is the furthest thing from the truth. My DC has a BFF in RP2. The BFF won't be affected, either as they will all be in MS by then.

Non RP family. No one's racial demographics change much. Some go down or up a few small percentages but honestly, all 4 schools are very racially diverse. TB is high Hispanic but otherwise pretty diverse too. Much more than many any other areas in MCPS

Do you mean the new construction Tower Oaks? From what I understand, Park Potomac doesn't have low income housing; Tower Oaks will. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

OK, I get the RP6 will have a bus. But what is the "official" word on RP2 and a bus?

I guess it depends on whether you consider MPDUs to be low-income or moderate-income housing. Park Potomac certainly has MPDUs in it.

Park Potomac has half a bus and were initially geared for empty nesters with elevator townhomes and condos. They do have MPDU too. The new apartments were just built this year. There are more kids going than projected - of course.

New area will have 30 single family homes, 225 townhomes, and 2 small condo buildings. Posted as a great place to raise a family. We shall see
