Loudoun County School Board meeting descends into absolute chaos

The thing is a lot of people invested in this issue WANT their kids to have superficial understanding vs knowledge because they know if their kids get knowledge they’ll start questioning, pushing back, divesting from what their parents instilled in them to think. Good parents want their kids to learn and develop their own opinions and beliefs and values. And some parents want their kids quiet and compliant and to walk the family line.

So weird, acting as if schools haven't been presenting accurate takes on US history for decades. Virtually all mainstream historians appropriately lean left.

Oh, I think the vast majority of privileged white parents in nova simply want their kids to remain at the top of the socioeconomic hierarchy. So long as they think that any of this won't actually impact them they'll pretend to care, in order to look good and get on the right side of where things are going. Kind of like the woke white CEOs or similar people who loudly cheer for affirmative action and the like--adopting these positions is, for them, about self-preservation.

Agreed. But the irony is the message "White people are terrible for wanting to remain at the top" while POC are celebrated for wanting to be at the top.

Apparently there's only honor in succeeding if yor skin color is brown.

They are terrible when they lie, cheat, kill, and steal to achieve the White Supremacy. I think that is more of the current issue.

The schools should teach with integrity and not be covering up things to portray historic figures as heroes, when some of them were not ethical and committed crimes against humanity for their own pleasures and personal gains.

This whole page is why people are upset.

People commit crimes due to systemic poverty due to systemic racism? You know that white poverty numbers exceed black poverty numbers right?

Well, I think it's more of a question of privileged whites using their privilege, fair or otherwise, to stay at the top. So long as they don't think their status is threatened, or their jobs threatened, they'll largely pretend to care about things like this. Some will actually care, but they aren't unilaterally giving up their privilege either. There is a lot of cognitive dissonance going on out there in these suburbs.

What school system in nova has been covering things up? If so, how?

Please. Do you think kids in elementary school now are taught that the Pilgrims' arrival in Massachusetts was a group of armed colonizers who invaded a populated area, immediately took possession of a piece of land, hunted and fished in competition with the native population, infected the locals with contagious diseases so that 90 percent of them died within a few years, forced assimilation on any natives they could capture, and warred with the remaining survivors for the next 150 years, with increasing reinforcements from the English Army, until they were able to take over the rest of their land as far as 300 miles inland?

Correct. People commit crimes due to systemic poverty. People are arrested and jailed for crimes due to systemic racism.

Do you think that young children should be taught that starting in K?

The point is that the crimes that we charge and jail people for are the ones related to systemic racism. If a contractor or stockbroker runs off with $10,000 of your money, "white collar crime," or civil offense, no jail. If a person sells loose cigarettes on the street, they can be charged. Sentences do not line up with crimes in terms of the size of the harm, but they do line up with the race/socieconomic status of the perpetrators.

YES

Because is the truth

OMG

Think of how differently white Americans would look at all these things if we didn't think of ourselves as entitled to be here, starting with these origin stories

THAT IS THE POINT

Maybe in a more age appropriate, less hysterical way. Are they taught to begin thinking critically about the question: if the US is built on stolen land, why is it morally and ethically appropriate to not return that land?
