I have three and a stepchild. |
The year has been hard for school boards. No doubt. But they ran for the job and have to answer for the choices and decisions they are making and the issues that are inflaming parents are NOT covid issues. Covid is not a pass for everything. |
60% voted for Biden means 40% were Trump supporters. That’s easy enough to fill a school board meeting. |
|
Can someone give examples of the curriculum that parents are so upset about? I've heard 2nd hand examples that really do sound crazy and it's hard to get actual facts on what is the issue. |
The school board has approved curriculum that includes books describing blow jobs for 9th graders. In school. Blowjobs. They need to own that and they don’t want to. You can’t use that word in the school board meeting but it is ok in school? Ok! That makes total sense!!! |
Bunch of triggered pearl clutchers.
|
Guilty. I am triggered by blowjob in school. Totally inappropriate. So bad. |
What I DON’T think should happen is modern people of any one race being blamed for things their ancestors did, because frankly, every race and ethnicity has done objectively bad things in the past, and shifting the blame on people now only divides us further. And clearly this is a divisive issue. |
I have two kids in ES. They're being taught history including race, slavery, civil rights, and the failures in history, such as the failures of the Founding Fathers, Reconstruction, etc. Do you have specific concerns about the current curriculum that needs l to be changed? I don't have concerns about the current curriculum but I do have concerns about a new curriculum. |
What book? |
Is this a health education book? 9th grade seems like a good time to talk about BJs and safe sex... |
Same! I keep getting conflicting information. I think this is likely where the disconnect is... everyone has a different idea of what CRT actually is. |
This was about transgender panic, not racism curricula.
"Black, of Ashburn, lambasted the board for its treatment of Byron "Tanner" Cross, a Leesburg Elementary School teacher who was placed on administrative leave last month after offering public comment at the May 25 board meeting. "If his comments were not protected speech, then free speech does not exist at all," Black said. Cross told the board that he would not recognize students' preferred gender pronouns or names if they choose to not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. He based his comments on a draft policy that, if passed in its current form, would mandate such recognition by school employees." https://www.loudountimes.com/news/school-board-cuts-short-public-comment-during-final-meeting-of-academic-year/article_cd24fdfe-d3aa-11eb-a599-432963882f6b.html |
Yes that area is known for its issues with racism for example the vandalism at the historic black school a few years back. Many there are White flight from Fairfax county. That is becoming MAGAland. |
