Im surprised there aren't more law suits trying to force schools to reopen. They're pretty common everywhere else. |
Can ya stop with the fatalist sensationalism? Please? No one is advocating that. |
I mean, I would support one but don’t have the money to hire a lawyer. It is something being considered by some. |
This "threat" to leave if they don't get what they want and their sincere belief that their existence as UMC white folks is essential to success is as old as public education itself. When white privilege is taken away and people stop catering to them they threaten to take their ball and go home. P.S. I'm white and rich. But I also have perspective. |
Of course you are! No surprise there. |
“Perspective”=desperate for approval from childless 23 year olds on Twitter. Put the bird app away and go outside and talk to people. |
You are clearly misunderstanding the research. |
So you think more black middle and upper class parents in D.C. would send their kids to poor performing schools but for the fact of racial profiling? Yeah, right. They send their kids to better schools because they have the ability to do so. And who is doing the racial profiling in D.C. schools? Is it the black principals and assistant principals, the large number of black teachers, the SJW white teachers, or teachers of other races? Or maybe its the custodial staff like at Smith College? |
Then stay... you’re the one leaving. I realize you’re a delicate flower who needs constant care and attention. Your daily temper tantrums over DCPS not catering to your whims is exhausting. We are all in the same boat. It’s a pandemic. But luckily things are improving and I bet it is back to school in the Fall, with or without the entitled families. |
Good one! That's a genius way to dismiss any argument with which you don't agree. It's like calling someone "woke" instead of addressing the underlying argument. Do you really believe that anyone who has the willingness to understand the world through a lens not their own is approval seeking? And do you really believe that the DC population is binary: UMC entitled white folks or childless 23 year olds? Newsflash, you are a minority in DC, in DCPS and DCPCS. Oh, and the "go outside and talk to people" is exactly the source of your myopathy. You are talking to your friends in your social circle all of whom have similar life experiences as you. The issue here is that your world view isn't the only one, and surely not the only one that matters. I know as an UMC white person you've been taught all your life that your view and voice matter more, but that's not actually true. There are people who disagree with you and their voices and opinions matter too. |
Well said! Gotta love the argument from wealthy white folks that the only way to embrace support for diversity is to give them what they want and cater to them. It's insane and illogical but plays in a sound bite unless someone thinks about it for a hot second. |
I'm not making an argument that I'd better get what I want or I leave. I'm not going anywhere. I am just pointing out that when schools re-segregate as a result of white flight, it hurts kids. There is research about this. |
You can't help. They don't understand what research is and how cause and effect works. They seem to understand the results (if you can call it that) as something intentional that you or I could prevent if we left. |
+1 |
| We are definitely leaving. DH works in DC. I work in MD and this year has been tough on our children because of our long hours and the virtual learning. We have been fortunate to get job transfers to Florida. |
