do you know a lot of people who are leaving DCPS next year?

Great, you can all clear out. I asked a family with three kids that can afford private about fleeing DCPS and they think, just like we do, that their children don't need to change schools to get a great education. I think DC even did better in DL than in person. They might offer DC to skip a grade. Can you imagine DC going to school with similar easy-going high achieving kids once the other ones clear off!
And for PP, I don't know what countries have better private schools than public, but surely not the top 10 of 2018.

Adios you say?
from Washington Post article

Some families leave the city, others the country. A parent of three, Teresa Garcia said she knows four immigrant families with children in public schools in her Northwest Washington neighborhood who returned to Mexico and El Salvador during the pandemic because they felt they had no job prospects and little support here.

There are immigrant families leaving. Unlike superkid who thrives in DL others are suffering. But you know it's bad when they decide El Salvador is better than DC.

Eventually the numbers will probably show an exodus if the schools don't provide families with some decent services.

We are fortunate that we could get our kid in a private preschool/daycare. So we're good for another year, hopefully we're back to normal when he's ready for Kindergarten.

Must not have read the article. A ton of the listings were in the suburbs.

Homes are being increasingly bought by investors, such as pension funds.

^^This is an example of the veiled racism, classism, and ableism pervasive in DCUM.

Family on my block left to return to Guatemala. They were living in a slumlord apartment on my block and kids were attending Seaton. Dad decided after months of kids being cooped up, it was better for the kids back home. Felt really sad to see them go, but I can understand.

IPL now, but only some days a week and wait for it... bring a laptop and headphones !

So IPL is kids sitting in a room watching a virtual class?

God I hate DCPS so much now.

yep, me too.
We are pulling 2 from Deal next year.

I know, I know. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out".

But that is two less pupils that DCPS gets funding for. Plus the $1K/kid I've given Deal each year at the "raise the paddle" auction.

Good luck! I’m trying to get into Deal. Maybe DC will have a chance and we always give generously to our schools.

Unfortunately I think a lot of DCUMs pro-DL posters would be happy about poor immigrant families leaving. They don't try to hide their racism much.

Careful, your bigotry is showing.

Being pro DL during a pandemic when teachers weren’t vaccinated doesn’t make you racist or a nazi Karen. You hear other people use those terms when people disagree w you and you think it’s about the disagreement it’s not.

Two families considering leaving DC because jobs may stay perm WFH and they want more space. They both has said the reason they would stay is DCPS. Housing prices is what would drive them away.

I guarantee you this person thinks that taking this position means she’s super woke, cause it makes WTU supporters happy. She hasn’t spent any time thinking about it more deeply than that.

I’m completely disgusted with a lot of people I used to think of as fellow progressives. Turns out they don’t actually give a damn about making society better for those on the bottom rungs, their main concern is collecting lots of Twitter high fives.

Do you understand what the actual danger was to unvaccinated teachers?

They’ve got the data now. It was like asking them to drive an extra 5-16 miles to work in the morning.

If you can look at that number and still think “yes, I was correct to support completely closing down public schools” then I don’t know what to tell you.

Oh and don’t come at me with “well we didn’t know!!!!!” This has ALWAYS been obvious from looking at the places that kept schools open. But now it’s a peer reviewed study, so what is your damn excuse?
