ECNL rising, GA falling . . . Where will the 06 and younger D1-thinking girls go?

U9? ECNL doesn’t even start until u13 or U14...

ECNL starts much later.

Parents shouldn’t even be thinking about ECNL U9-12

100%. But it will take a couple of years and a migration of players. And it’s not like ECNL is heavenly. there are some real concerns there regarding how they plan to structure showcasing opportunities with 120+ teams. Girls who play on teams that are low in their conferences won’t have the showcasing opportunities that girls who play on teams that are top of the conference. 2022 or 2023 DCUM threads around tryout time won’t be about ECNL v GA anymore, but they WILL be about which ECNL teams are ‘worth it’ and which are not. i do think that is an open question answered by a combination of coaching and development and location. I think it’s funny that people keep bringing up that BRYC had a national championship when the coaches that built that team are gone. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance.

You don’t understand ECNL, showcase structure, recruiting or the landscape.

1.There are no concerns.
2. YOU will try to get you kid on the best team THEY can make
3. If YOUR kid isn’t good enough to make a better team, she still has the opportunity to play those other teams. The conversation will never be about “is it worth it”.
4. One of the best 03s team in the nation is BRYC. Wanna know why? They never really broke up when GDA came around.
5. BRYC last place teams just gave FCV, a top GA club, decent competition....except in the 04 group.
6. MU, who hasn’t even had a season yet, have FCV all they could handle.

With the DA and now the GA collapse, The bad ECNL teams only get better

I was interested in reading your points.....then I read the bolded above when you referred to the 5th place (in the Mid-Atlantic) BRYC team....they aren't even among the best in their own division......

U18-19 is a weird age group. However, you can ask FCV 03 parents how good BRYC 03 if you want. To be clear, BRYC 03 has been the power team for the last 4 years.

But since you check the rankings, I’m sure you saw Mcleans rankings

They’re 5-2-1 in a goofy year behind some very very good teams/clubs.

McLean will be the next powerhouse. Sandwiched between Arlington and Ashburn.

Cuckoo cuckoo. Time to visit your doctor again.

It’s obvious you weren’t around when only two ECNL clubs existed in NOVA, but 50 percent of Mcleans teams were Loudoun County kids. On top of that, Arlington had an agreement to funnel their best kids to Mclean.

I have been around youth soccer in NOVA since 1980. Cuckoo. Cuckoo.

So it is better to be on a bad ECNL team or a good GA team?

Depends; are you making it a bad ECNL team? (Girl) Players will ALWAYS migrate to ECNL; there was just less movement this year because DA became GAL during COVID.

Do you know how some of the bad ECNL teams did recently in friendlies against good GA teams?

We are talking about unbeaten GA teams versus last place ECNL teams with zero to little wins.

It wasn’t impressive.

Do FCV and Arlington have talented players and teams? Absolutely. However, beating the brakes off of everyone week in and out is not helpful to them.

15-0 games
8-0 games
7-0 games

Don’t score again please games.

FCV and Arlington would be good additions to ECNL. But it’s not going to happen.

So to answer your question. Either be great against crap competition or get challenged by better competition.

Yes it does. It gets you to the high profile showcases.

BRYc 03 is a great team. Both loses this year to McLean U19 who is the top u19 team in DMV and ranked #3 in the nation. MDU is also very very good.

Amateurs always look at rankings on the surface without looking deeper.

So Tophat even went as far as to start a petition to get into ECNL last year. Doesn't look like it worked out unfortunately but it does tell you what they think of the GA situation...

This is actually shocking... as A GA parent I will admit that this even shut me up.

Nobody cares. Deck reshuffles next fall. Players play. Parents jabber. Your kid is no player.

In all fairness, VDA 06 is one of the best 06 teams in the country.
