A Week In Washington, DC, On A Joint $655,000 Income - Money Diary

Sort of shocked no one has cried troll. The entry struck me as trollish. Not necessarily, but it seemed written to be provocative, especially the line about affordable healthcare where she says “not exactly my area of expertise.” Could just be a shallow person but could also be a troll. As others have noted she seems to be careless about drinking and surgery.

after spending half the pouring through the provider lists at area hospitals and clinics, I'm convinced this person does not exist

It’s her wealth, not his. Why should she pay for it?

Is this a serious question?? They’re married.

Do you think Mark Zuckerberg has Priscilla Chan still working to pay off her medical school debt??

I remember Nicole Shanahan who is the wife of Sergey Brin (billionaire and founder of google) talk about her student loans in a video. I’m sure Brin who is now her husband has paid it off for her.

I find it bizarre that she has her husband working to pay it off. Given she has a family office she can afford it. I’m assuming that he is going to be the father of her children so...???

Yes, it’s a serious question. It was my question, actually. Clearly, having a prenup, this family doesn’t think like you do. Why on earth would she pay his loans off after securing a prenup?

I’m the person that asked if this is a serious question. She’s smart to have a prenup. Never disagreed with that. And honestly, doesn’t sound like a family I would marry into. There are plenty of wealthy families that aren’t like this one and actually kind.

And she is not kind, because?

DP- I think she sounds confident and generous with her immediate family, which is great, but she doesn’t sound kind. The insistence on her husband paying his own loan and fantasizing about setting up her sister with her DH’s friend just after she met his sweet gf (wtf?) just gives off an unkind vibe. She seems awesome in some ways but is probably overbearing and controlling in real life.

Maybe he wanted to pay off his own loans. It’s clear that he’s living off her family’s money/her income. Even if she didn’t pay his loans directly, by paying his living expenses for years, he was certainly able to put more of his own income towards his student loans. If you recognize that money is fungible, her family/her income did contribute to his loan payments.

This. I mean they aren't living a $120k/yr lifestyle so he might as well use his money to pay the loans what else is there for him to do?

I'm dying to know who she is. Not that I'll do absolutely *anything* with that information besides having my own curiosity satisfied lol, but I must know: does she have bangs? What kind of dogs do they have and what are their names? Was she an NCS girl? Or perhaps this was a Visi-Prep (or Gonzaga) duo? What old money DC family does she come from?

Agreed would love to know the background

Guys, guys, I am sure that because she has been so financially blessed, her salary is actually the value of her medical skills which she gives away for free as a surgeon serving exclusively under and uninsured patients.

Just kidding, with that salary and those hours, my guess is she is in cosmetic dermatology, the ultimate lifestyle “surgical” speciality.

Assuming it is not all a work of fiction, I am just amazed at the cost of doggy daycare! How is anyone able to afford to own a dog in this city? From a financial perspective it might make more sense for her husband to become a SAHDD (stay at home dog dad). Something to bring up at the revising-the-prenup meeting.

I doubt a surgeon makes that much at 33. They'd be 30 when done with residency.

You guys, it’s fiction.

Women are obviously over represented lol

https://www.womensurgeons.org/search/newsearch.asp

I got so close. I found a female surgeon at GW who graduated from Harvard in 2008, so that would put her right at the age of the surgeon in the diary. But no, a Google search reveals that that surgeon lives in McLean...

No one even in the realm of possibility at Georgetown.

now onto the Sibley list...

She likely works at a NoVA hospital. She mentioned picking up a case of wine at Total Wines on the way home from work - there's none in DC or in nearby MD suburbs. Total Wine is all over Northern VA. She wouldn't go out of her way from DC to visit a Total Wine to save a few bucks, plenty of good wine shops in Georgetown (we live here, we know what's around).

She also mentions walking to a Turkish restaurant. There is a Turkish restaurant across the street from Total Wine in McLean.

There’s also a doggy daycare near the total wine

correct. My dad is very well paid surgeon in the area and that is not what you make right after residency.

This jumped out at me, too, combined with the person who described her as a steamroller.

I’ll bet you she’s not that attractive and kind of difficult.

Why would you expect a surgeon to be an expert on “ impact of health care access in low-income communities in DC.”. She’s not public health specialist or a community or family doctor serving low income community population. I wouldn’t expect a surgeon to be expert in this area.

Your internalized misogyny jumped out at me.

(But if you must know, she said in a comment on the article that her husband was in Big Law but took a lower paying 9-5 recently because they want to have kids soon and he will be doing most of the childcare duties.)

You ppl are so gullible. This person is not real. Btw, med students graduate at 26 and are at least 30-31. if they graduate from any kind of surgical residency. If she did fellowship it’s longer. How is she making so much a year or a few months after graduating. Maybe she did combined 6 yr program lol.

So I have a few friends in their 30s from visi and they are all similar to her though not her. One is Persian, from a wealthy family, she’s a doctor married to a lawyer. And two Indian girls who are siblings, one is a doctor, wealthy family where the parents work in world bank/diplomatic circles and inherited their wealth...Another is Indian and she and her mom are doctors and her mom is descended from royalty in India.
