I want to be Mormon

I was engaged to a Mormon.
I wouldn't call it a cult. They ask a lot of their members, no premarital sex, no alcohol or drugs. In so doing, they need strength and support from each other to obey their rules. Yes, they keep tabs on each other, but it is not in a threatening way.
Also, the family thing. I actually think that they are quite sloppy with that. Because they do not have premarital sex, they get married readily. I see a fair share of divorce. Also, I knew three Mormons who were widowed and all were remarried within 18 months of the spouses deaths....Almost shallow to me.
Yes they are a bit racists, but I saw MANY inter-racial marriages in the church, and I believe that most Mormons now are non white.

Yes they are a bit racists, but I saw MANY inter-racial marriages in the church, and I believe that most Mormons now are non white.

I dated a Mormon guy who was divorced (He became a convert after the divorce.) He wanted to marry me very soon after we stared dating. It was something about being married when you die and the Celestial Kingdom, which is what Mormons call Heaven. He was the nicest guy I have known but in no way could I marry a Mormon. I had worked hard on the ERA and the Mormon Church was the reason for its defeat.

I remember reading news articles when Brigham Young University (BYU) started allowing Coke (Coke machines?) on campus. Yes. it made the evening news.

Some of the best people I know are ex-Mormons. They are kind, generous, community-focused, hardworking, and very open-minded.

I don’t think that Mormons are that crazy. I see some other Christians as being odd. Take for instance many Baptists. They seem to have a fantasy that the lord will take care of everything. It is a real fantasy because in truth the lord does not provide material goods that we need. That comes from hard work. Baptists are some of the poorest Christians. On the other hand, Mormons seem to have a grasp of reality to the extent that they take matters into their own hands, working hard to provide for their families. So part of their faith forces Mormons to take personal responsibility.

Mormons do not believe in "By grace you will be saved." Instead they believe you must do constant good-works and pay 10% of your gross earnings (and they check your W-2) to be saved.

This is one of the reasons many denominations do not believe Mormons are a Christian denomination. Also you will not readily find the Bible in the pews at church. Mormons mostly study and read from the Book Of Mormon, not the Bible. I attended at 2 different wards with friends to "check them out" and I had to ask for a Bible. That was pointless as it was not used at either service whatsoever.
