MoCo isn’t moving forward, despite MD going to Phase 2

That’s the problem, Elrich has seemed to gone silent on this issue since the last update where he said he would look at Hogan’s phase 2 activities to see if any can be implemented.

Yep. The last update was 4 days ago.

At this point I feel like MoCo won’t move forward on opening until Elrich is out of office. I have lost hope. He is in a pissing match with Hogan and the world, and determined to use his power to keep the county closed as long as he possibly can. It’s not about the virus anymore, it’s about his power.

UGH I hope not, considering his term doesn’t end until 2022.

Yes, I agree with you. His whole spiel about staying aligned with PG county, DC and NoVa was a lie.

I am not that cynical but I am losing hope too. Luckily I live near DC and PGC so we can just drive other places for the day as they cautiously reopen (giving them the tax revenue and keeping SD/masked), but it would be nice to stay closer to home.

No, it's basically virtue signaling. He just wants to be able to say he was the last to reopen in the DMV.

OMG... calm down people. It'll probably be another week, maybe two at most. People were saying the same dramatic things before Phase I started. Want to stand outside of his office with an "I NEED A HAIRCUT" sign to express your oppression?

Is he working out of his county office? Because I've somewhat seriously considered bringing my kids down there to explain why they can't play on the playground...

Do you have any information to back your timing statement? His lack of information and a plan may not impact your life (yeah for you!), but we have camps scheduled on county fields and they can’t tell us what’s going on until Elrich acts. I would like to know if we need to make alternate plans.

I live in Takoma Park and as liberal as they come and I will never vote for Elrich again over this. The lack of communication is appalling.

+1

As is his emphasis on eating out being the driver of reopening. I could not care less about eating at a restaurant--open the freaking playgrounds and stores and pools, FFS.

The people who think this is about haircuts are so misguided.

People need camps to open so they can have childcare for their kids.

Small businesses need to be able to operate beyond curbside pickup.

It’s about important things.

I live a few minutes away from Howard County. We just signed our kids up for their camps, opening end of month (fortunately we have someone to take them as both my husband and I return to work in a week). Last weekend, we went hiking on their nice trails, stopped off at the mall to make a quick return (some stores open), and since we were there, had dinner and did a quick grocery run.
Everyone knows MC is going downhill in more ways than one and I can't wait to leave in 2 years.

Yep. I dont need restaurants to open. I need him to open pools, playgrounds and curbside pickup at the library - the things young families need to survive this mess. I will continue to donate to support out of work hospitality workers but we don’t need to wait for that to be safe.
