Nope.

What does "Nope" mean? Is it "No way would I go."? or "No need to cancel."?

It means no.

Because do you want to be quarantined or hospitalize with children in Mexico.

AGREED. That would be awful. It's not about the travel IMO, it's about what happens if this explodes and all of a sudden you can't get back into the US and you get sick in Mexico. UGH...no thank you.

So its highly unlikely we will go, but eating $6K just really really hurts. Like could have bought a few appliances for my kitchen hurts. Ugh. We can "afford" it, but are not so wealthy it doesn't hurt.

Talk to a travel health clinic doctor or nurse. This board is not a good place to get rational advice. There are very high levels of anxiety here and people are extremely anxious and risk adverse. Basing a decision off of someone else's anxiety is not a good decision.

For those of you traveling for vacation, I'd check to see if the major tourist spots are even open.

The Louvre has been shut down for a week. So has Venice.

It's not worth going in these cases.

Do you think the National Parks will close, especially the ones with hotels and lodges on site?

He also has an underlying condition:

remains in a New York City hospital and has an "underlying respiratory illness," according to Cuomo.

This is the big cue. If you don't have respiratory illnesses your odds of suffering from the virus beyond a mild flu is so very low.

I'm sure the heavy smoking rates in China and Italy had something to do with their large numbers of deaths. It seems like those who died in Seattle had existing respiratory problems.

Anonymous wrote:I'm genuinely confused re domestic travelling concerns - you could get this ANYWHERE people gather. Who knows who traveled where in your own community? Why do you think your risk is greater somewhere else? In a city like DC, you have just as much chance of getting it as you might in, say, SF. Right?

I’m with you.

Me too, but the only thing that gives me pause are the flights.

Yes, but is it really that different than people who are taking Metro, trains, and buses every day to commute? Personally, I would travel as long as I know I could drive home if necessary.

I agree with the above. It's why we are moving forward with our spring break to Atlanta. We can always rent a car and drive back. Or if one of us is sick, the hospitals there are great and we'd have enough to pay a hotel for a couple of weeks, if necessary.

Supposed to go to Hawaii in two weeks. Would you cancel?

Did you book on a credit card? Many cards have trip insurance as a benefit.

I have trip insurance. And if one of us gets ill right before the trip or on the trip it kicks in. But we don't have cancel for any reason and therefore we can't cancel for fear of the virus.

For the Disney travelers, if you can't get your money back, I'd still go to Florida and maybe not do as many days in the parks (if you don't already have tickets). Go over to the beach for a day, rent a boat, go to the playgrounds, etc. And practice good hand washing. And I'd be sure to take shoes off and wear flip flops in the hotel room, if you are in a hotel and be sure to take showers right away and not sit on the beds with your street clothes on.

The only thing that concerns me is the swimming pool. I am avoiding those for sure -- might be irrational but too many germs in the pools and hot tubs.

What about Busch Gardens over spring break?

+1
Same here. Though in light of government warnings re: coronavirus, it would be the right thing to do for airlines to refund tickets already purchased. It would certainly make me a lot more likely to book with them in the future.

I don't understand people who post like this. Do you think people with asthma, heart problems, or immune issues don't use the internet? Do you think nobody on this forum has family in these categories? People over 70 have something like an 8% mortality rate (and a very high rate of severe illness). Do you not have older family members you care about?
