MAJOR Snowstorm?

No, they won't be. Unlike Boston, we simply don't have the equipment to remove large amounts of snow quickly. The temperatures on Wednesday will still be below freezing, so natural melting will not occur. Some winters we have a lot of snow, and other winters (like this one), we have little to none. It doesn't make sense to have the same budget for snow clean-up like Boston.

And also, unlike Boston, we have large county school systems where the amount of snow and clean-up can vary. It's not possible to open one part of a county's school and keep the other parts closed.

With a mid-March sun angle, natural melting will occur. Lots of it.

Gotta love the crazy weather here!

I never saw it reported as a "non-event." Where did you see that last night?

Mthey are mistaken. It was never a non event. Models yesterday had it more in the 8-12 range and today seem to be back up on 12-16.

Where are you getting these high snow totals? I saw 2-5 inches on channel 4 news for the DC area.

What you are seeing is their for sure forecast. They know there's no way we will get less than 5 so that's all they're comfortable saying right now. The major news outlets almost always hedge til last minute and only tell you what is 100% likely to occur. They have to manage public safety concerns and deal with public blowback if they're wrong so they are extremely conservative. People like Jays Wintry Mix who are amateur meteorology enthusiasts will tell you the actual amount because they don't have any burden to the public to meet if they're wrong. Jay is almost never wrong. He can read a weather map as good as any of them. He called last year's January storm a week out and was dead on with totals and time of impact.

Probably open on Friday. I don't see any sun forecast for Wednesday. A high temp of 29 and low of 16.

Is anyone else having major anxiety over this? Clearly I need mental health help!

Very appreciative to all the PP's sharing the info. You all are on the ball!

This is reassuring, thank you for pointing it out!

Why are you anxious?

Normally it's just the feeling of being trapped inside and the worry over losing power. This year I have a serious medical condition so it just adds a layer.

Thank you for being kind enough to ask. I know it's silly and illogical!

With all the wonky men in DC, 9 inches is phenomenal

I'm anxious because we have a flight on Wednesday.

I always say I hate snow, but this thread is reminding me that what I really hate is this hysterical, frenzied lead-up. Ugh.
