Good morning all! How is it possible that just last night, it was reported again as a non- event, wintry mix, and this morning we are full on Nor'Easter?!? Gotta love the crazy weather here!
I never saw it reported as a "non-event." Where did you see that last night? -DC resident
Mthey are mistaken. It was never a non event. Models yesterday had it more in the 8-12 range and today seem to be back up on 12-16.
Where are you getting these high snow totals? I saw 2-5 inches on channel 4 news for the DC area.
What you are seeing is their for sure forecast. They know there's no way we will get less than 5 so that's all they're comfortable saying right now. The major news outlets almost always hedge til last minute and only tell you what is 100% likely to occur. They have to manage public safety concerns and deal with public blowback if they're wrong so they are extremely conservative. People like Jays Wintry Mix who are amateur meteorology enthusiasts will tell you the actual amount because they don't have any burden to the public to meet if they're wrong. Jay is almost never wrong. He can read a weather map as good as any of them. He called last year's January storm a week out and was dead on with totals and time of impact.
