they don't need to advertise their services surreptitiously on DCUM.

+1, FCPS is the only true advertiser of WISC testing to begin with. If it wasn't for the appeal form I wouldn't even know such test exists.

Plus, it's a nation wide test, you would need it to enter many private schools across the country and VA. So to think someone would come to these posts and secretly advertise, only makes you look paranoid and narrow minded that WISC is ONLY used for FCPS GT appeals! Get real!

I am new here and not sure how to start a new thread ...

There is a list of recommended tests a child can take in order to complete the AAP requirements.

Other than the WISC which other tests are good and reliable? I havent really heard of any other tests being mentioned on here.

At our school, there are no Local Level IV "letters." Those fortunate enought to gain admission for their child via that route get a phone call from the principal the week before school starts asking for parental permission to "pupil place" the child in the AAP classroom.

Appealed last week, what are the chances?

What are the NNAT and FxAT scores?

It doesn't matter, as the group-administered county scores essentially drop out when a WISC is submitted on appeal. The GBRS is still relevant on appeal. I am confident that your child will get in (as well as everyone else on the list having a full-scale WISC above 135 and GBRS is above 8). A much higher WISC (145+, which is actually a big deal, because that is the cut-off for "profoundly gifted" in the scientific literature) will get in regardless of the GBRS.

how do you know this? Are you a part of the AAP appeals process for FCPS?

what about WISC above 135 and GBRS of only 8?

wait for 6/28/13 ... as they snd Mail Level IV appeal decisions to parents or AAP central office
guardians and local schools.

The decision about who, besides those determined to be eligible for level IV services, will be in the LLIV classrooms is done individually by the principal of each school in the weeks immediately preceding the start of school. Once they know how many students that have in LLIV, they can see how many open spots there are for high performing Level III students. Each school does it differently, however. Some school invite them on a subject-to-subject basis. Some invite completely into the LLIV classroom.

Hey, thanks for answering my question. Is SBS format different than the WISC?
