I promise I'm not trying to be a dick.. Why do editor jobs pay shit? Is it a sign of the changing times, or have they always been like that?

Well I don't know about that - not everyone disclosed having one. I'm at $190, and was at $90K before I got my masters, 3 years ago. So in 3 years, I've doubled my pre advanced degree salary, to say nothing of the $150k or so in sign on bonuses I got. Plus of course, I'm on a completely different income trajectory now. It all depends what you do with your degree.

How did you triple your salary in 3 years? Did you stay at the same company? What field are you in? What was your master in?

I'm sorry, but the money people make is "inspiring"? How about the actual work people are doing to earn that money? Do you have anything to say about the teachers and social workers making in the $40K range? Their ANNUAL salary is less than what some people on this thread get as a BONUS. Think about that. This income disparity is just outrageous to me. People working their asses off to make their communities and country a better place make next to nothing, and everybody else is getting rich. It's not right.

I wish I made what some of these folk make but I don't put down anyone for grabbing every dollar they can - as long as they're paying taxes and all that because Social Security IS my retirement plan.

Scary. You're not concerned that future benefits might be reduced? And do you really think you can survive on SS alone?

Unless you're the GC or a senior VP, I say bs.

Not bs. 15 years of top firm & government experience. Large company in financial services industry. Agree this is not typical for most in-house positions.

Doubled... not tripled...

MBA, fancy pants east coast school.

Pre MBA salary was $90K. Post MBA salary first job out was $110K with a $40K sign on bonus. End of year I was rated exceptional, salary bump pushed me to $115K. I asked for a bigger raise, they said no and I immediately left, got a $100K sign on bonus at new firm, salary bumped to $125K out of the gate. Then add in some good ratings and two promotions back to back, and bingo presto, $190K.

The honest answer as to how is: 1. I went to a 'prestigious' school that - rightly or wrongly - is rewarded with high starting salaries and affords you credibility 2. a lot of dumb luck, 3. getting 'tapped' by executive leadership and 4. a little hard work.

What in the world is a digital strategist? What do you do? lol

I teach old people how to use the internet It's mostly a combination of organizing, communications, networking, and keeping up with anything in the online world. It's pretty fun, actually. Some days I'm surprised people will pay me to do this.

What happens when the day comes where everyone knows how to use the internet?
