I have 8 kids, ask me anything!

To C9BL, I have an only child via homebirth. I really dislike pregnancy, but homebirthing changed my life in a really positive way. I felt empowered and ready to tackle my goals after. I was 26. If I have more children, I would love to do homebirth again!

I am so glad to hear that! It never ceases to amaze me how many women who experience homebirth go on to have more babies at home, often many more than they intended to have when they first imagined their families, simply because the homebirth was such an empowering high of an experience. We become birth junkies .

Me too! For lots of reasons, we're only having two kids, but some days I want a third just so I can experience a home birth again.

To the OP: you sound like a more patient parent than I, and I only have two! How often do you get frustrated at/with your kids? How often do you yell at them? How do you remember to keep calm with chaos around you?

On 300K a year, how do you afford private school for seven children?

Thanks so much

The private school they go to is relatively cheap plus we get a discount for being members of their church and then a sibling discount.

Anonymous wrote:OP, do you plan on covering any portion of your kids' college education? I know this is something that weighs on my mind when I consider having more children - DH and I wouldn't be able to pay for another DC's college.

Also, and maybe I missed this from earlier posts, but are you in the DC, MD, VA area?

They have a savings account set up that gets money put in it monthly plus their grandparents, aunts, and uncles tend to contribute on birthdays and Christmas.

We live in VA.

Thank you! We have a savings account for each of them set up. Money gets put in to it monthly. Both of our families are well-off financially.

ha ha! I get frustrated every single day. No worries, you are not alone on getting impatient with kids. But believe it or not, I never yell. Actually, that's not completely true. I don't yell anymore. I've found that yelling just makes things worse! It adds to the chaos surrounding me and just makes me stressed out. No actually listens to what I'm saying if I yell, they are just looking at me like I'm crazy because I'm screaming at them. Over time I've found my "mean mommy" voice and I think that works 10x better than yelling. If I need to get a point across I turn on that stern, quiet voice and talk directly to them. That way they can actually hear what I'm saying and know that I am talking to them directly and they better listen to exactly what I'm saying.

Their money has nothing to do with us. We pay for our own house, clothes, food, bills, and everything thing else that is ours. We can afford 8 kids because we come from families who know hard work and taught their children how to work hard to get what they wanted. We did just that.
