If I'm walking through a neighborhood (whether I live there or not) and a strange man is following me in a car and then gets out of his car to follow me on foot, I'm certainly not going to answer him when he asks me questions about myself. Is that what your parents taught you to do? That's strange, because my parents taught me not to talk to strangers, especially not men who follow me. |
Uh, how do you know George Zimmerman flashed his easily recognizable authoritative Neighborhood Watch ID at Trayvon???!!!! You know, the one that everyone recognizes and knows is only carried by authorized, licensed, and vetted Neighborhood Watch captains. Well, I'm guessing he didn't because there isn't one! This is reminding me of the time I was walking home at night from a party in my small town along a country road. My mom made me go to the party with my sister but when I got there I was just too scared (nerd teen girl that I was) and fled from the house and walked home. On the way home, a car slowed down beside me which scared the bejeesus out of me so I took off into the field away from the road. I had no idea who was in that car but all I could imagine was that they were up to no good. I would have been terrified if a stranger had gotten out of that car and followed me. If I had had a gun (extremely unlikely but let's say I did), I probably would have pulled it out and aimed it at the car. My sister told me later that it was a friend from the party hoping to convince me to come back but he didn't want to embarrass me so he told her not to tell me about it. Turned out to have been just fine but I didn't know that at the time. How was Trayvon Martin supposed to know that George Zimmerman thought he was just trying to protect his neighborhood? This is why morons shouldn't be allowed to carry guns. |
Even as an adult, if a neighborhood watch was following me, I'd tell them to F Off. That works for me because I am a white woman. Too bad TM didn't call 911 first. |
If a stranger stopped me, someone with NO badge, no trappings of actual authority, I would have under NO CIRCUMSTANCES given him any information, offered to call my parents or stopped to talk with him. I guarantee you are a white person and you have never been stopped for being "suspicious" because otherwise you would not think that that was a reasonable course of action for Trayvon at the time. If your daughter was stopped by a strange, large, 250 lb man, would you want her to give out her personal information to him, so that that man could feel comfortable about her right to walk down the street? |
Interesting. The presumption here is that Martin should have just known that Zimmerman, a stranger, was a neighborhood watch captain (and that claim is somewhat dubious) and relaxed and answered questions while Zimmerman was completely justified in wrongly assuming that Martin, also a stranger, was up to no good. Hmmmm....wonder what the difference is there? |
Cuz of course white Hispanic guys never do anything wrong and never commit crimes so Martin should just have assumed that Zimmerman was not out to hurt him. |
If a male stranger is following you in a car then on foot, what is your first reaction going to be?
At night, if a White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, short, tall, heavy, lean, purple, blue, or pink man is following you- are you really going to stop and ask why he is following you? |
Teen witness to Trayvon Martin’s shooting ‘couldn’t see anything’: Mom http://soc.li/OBF1pue
Interesting account in the NY Daily News. Apparently one of the witnesses is a 13-year-old whose mom feels that he was pressured by the police to tailor his account to support Zimmerman's side. |
This is a case study in what NOT to do when a strange man is following you at night. Stop and talk to the man? What are you insane? This only makes sense to you because you believe that Zimmerman is trustworthy. No child should assume that. |
If only the victim had a gun too. Both would either be hurt and alive or dead. |
I'm a neighborhood watch patrol in Fairfax County. We have to go through training before starting our watch. We are told NOT to carry a weapon and NOT to pursue anyone. We are also told to wear a reflective vest if we are walking or place a sign (magnet sign) on our car so people know that it Neighborhood Watch who is driving slowly down the street.
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/stations/franconia/img/20120301introtonw.pdf Walking Patrols Many Neighborhood Watch programs assign residents to walk within a several block area to actively look for suspicious activities. Active, scheduled, patrols should be done in pairs when possible (i.e., husband and wife or two neighbors). Upon observing suspicious activities, walking patrols are to contact the police either by using a cell phone, or as soon as possible if a cell phone is not readily available. Patrol members are cautioned against personal intervention or confrontation. Unique decals on residents’ vehicles are helpful in identifying vehicles that belong in the neighborhood. Obtaining and issuing decals should be the responsibility of the local civic or homeowners’ association. |
Yes, hence the word "WATCH" not follow, confront, or take out your gun. It doesn't matter what Martin did or did not do. This situation was going to end badly the minute Zimmerman disregarded the 911 dispatcher and started following him. |
Is the killer a wanna be cop? That might explain his behavior and carrying a gun. |
I thought it was confirmed by the actual neighborhood watch patrol that Zimmerman was not at all member of the neighborhood watch Patrol...That would make him a random guy with a guy... |
Maybe he is like those border patrol volunteers, unknown to authorities or any real, legitimate organizations, who carry guns and handcuffs and are itching to find a Mexican person crossing the border so they can make a citizens arrest. |
