You are going to pull a kid from a full learning experience about immigration if they don't top it off with a broadway play? Seems a bit excessive...

Calling this a learning experience is too generous. Those looked like very brief pit stops on the way to Dave and Busters. Certainly there is no point in bussing kids to NYC and staying overnight for just those pit stops which are quite trivial.

Ellis Island and the statue of Liberty are trivial now?! What a lune...

Yes they are trivial when you live in Washington DC. We have more significant monuments to visit than that. Also how much time exactly was spent on Ellis Island???? What about the in-person trip was more educational than a classroom discussion?

Exactly! Ellis Island was totally a pitstop.

Is OP just sock puppeting now, there is now way there are that many daft parents at Maret... like I get you are upset broadway got pulled, but to shit on the Statue of Liberty... people come from all over the world to see it and your kid was lucky they go to a school that takes them!

Well, yes. There are many daft parents at Maret.

Right. So you think the expense of bussing kids to NYC and staying overnight just to see a monument, while missing two days of school, was justified?

To see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty?! Yes! It is an emoji it is so iconic🗽

Real basic tourist stuff. Next you are going to tell me they ate street food and took the subway. Was this trip also planned by a middle school student?

Ellis Island and Tenement museum are both fantastic. I would argue Broadway play, while also great, is more touristy. But they are tourists so who cares.

This is the answer.

This whole thread is unhinged! Absolutely wild.

There was just no reason to go to NYC. A few pit stops in NYC before Dave and Busters is inexcusable.

"Just a pit stop" at the poetic symbol of the American dream and learning about the foundation of our country 🤣 basically a roadside stand... but man that Dave & Busters in Jersey! That was the point of the trip!

Pathetic planning though to just stop at a monument and tiny museum. NYC has much more to offer if anyone actually cared to plan it. Probably the worst field trip to NYC that I have ever heard of.

Feels like the issue isn’t lack of planning so much as expectations being very… Broadway-centric for a trip centered on immigration history.

It seems that the immigration part in Ellis Island was quite short. But plenty of time in D&B’s.

At this point I have to believe this is a well played effort on the part of the Maret troll who finally got a morsel of intel cause no way is OP this thick... she knows the more she responds the more we are going to drag her... and I'm not attacking the school, just her.

By repeatedly dragging OP, you are giving OP exactly what they want. How are you not seeing this?

Field Trip Gate 2026 is the scandal we've all been waiting for.

An overnight field trip to NYC that spends more time in Dave and Busters in NJ than actually in NYC.

Why does OP keep using the phrase “pit stop” to refer to the visits to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty? They are actual islands and one needs to take a boat to reach them. It takes ages! And, IMO, is worth it because every American should go at least once. Anyway, I’m confused about how these visits could have been pit stops on the way to NJ, perhaps OP should consult a map.

I guess she is referring to the fact that those visits were extremely short, and there was no time to even take a look at the exhibitions with actual educational content. The visits to those places felt like they just went there to check a box on the itinerary.

I didn’t read the middle five pages. Did we ever find out the actual school? 😂

The Bullis School for St Maret seems to be the school involved.

+1 the amount of time spent in NYC rendered those visits extremely brief and meaningless. To buss kids there and spend an overnight just for that made no sense. Inadequate time there made them merely pit stops on the way to New Jersey.

Did you want them to eat at Carbone, stay at the Plaza Hotel, ride around in Uber Blacks, and enjoy caviar and cocktails on a rooftop overlooking the city?

I guess street food, the Statue of Liberty, and the subway aren’t good enough for your middle school aged Larlo with 3 brain cells.
