Private & Independent Schools
Since this is a DC private school, I would be surprised if any of these kids have not been to NYC before. So yeah, it is a little too basic for these kids. |
I was a DC kid and I didn't go to NYC until I was in high school and I still have not been to any of the places the kids went to on the tour and would be interested in going to all of them (except D&B, but like it's a school trip, you always get awful food on school trips... it's the only reason Planet Hollywood is still open down by the mall...) |
You and your kids get more and more sympathetic as this thread goes along.

Your life 40 years ago has no relevance to DC kids today. Sorry to break it to you. |

God you are just a peach! I feel bad for your kids, but not because they got dragged to the Jersey D&B... |
| Well, this is not the first underwhelming field trip. |
| This thread is wild. I just read through it all. OP, you are right to be annoyed and the school staff (spouse of school staff?) who is continually bashing you on here is unhinged. |
This is the answer. This whole thread is unhinged! Absolutely wild. |
Haha, I mostly agree with you, except Planet Hollywood has been closed 20+ years. But Hardrock Cafe is still open, which I think of as similar, so it proves your point This has been an entertaining thread to follow today. I think Ellis Island and the Tenement Museum are both great activities to take kids to, that can't be replicated in DC. And while I agree, a Broadway show is a great experience, the type of show they would pick for the kids (Lion King, etc.) could also be seen in DC, Baltimore, or the new Capitol One theater out by Tysons. NYC does have a wider range of theaters and more smaller shows, etc - but I doubt the kids would be going to the more obscure or artsy productions. And regarding D&B, maybe your kid did not have fun, but I would venture to guess that a lot of the kids had a blast. Getting to run around with their classmates and play games is fun, it was not the sole activity of the trip, let it go!

There was just no reason to go to NYC. A few pit stops in NYC before Dave and Busters is inexcusable. |
Who is the school staff person on here? I must have missed that one... |
Omg it was the Hard Rock café I was thinking of 🤣 can you tell I would eat at neither 😂 Also completely agree with your take! I wouldn't choose D&B, but I bet my kid would enjoy it! |
"Just a pit stop" at the poetic symbol of the American dream and learning about the foundation of our country 🤣 basically a roadside stand... but man that Dave & Busters in Jersey! That was the point of the trip! |
