What school? This is ridiculous. It is supposed to be a cultural experience. Sadly many of the newly wealthy in this area have never been to a Broadway show and they get on school boards and have influence etc...

Oh please. This has nothing to do with a board decision.

OP, I would not be happy about this at all. Did you not know about this before the trip? Someone should have spoken up then.

And are you saying that they went to Dave & Busters instead of a Broadway play, or that was the meal part of the day?

The only thing I know is that the kids used to go to a broadway play and this year they canceled that activity and replaced it with Dave and Busters. Also they visited a museum for 30 minutes.

That makes more sense. Sounds like they couldn’t make Broadway work and built a different day around it. Probably saw it as a 2 birds one stone to get lunch in the kids and energy out after a long bus ride.

It makes absolutely no sense. Broadway play should be a major purpose of the trip. Dave and Busters is not a substitute.

OP, did you see this on the itinerary before the trip?

I would absolutely question this. It's a complete waste of time and not worthy of a $60K tuition private school.

You would have to ask the school OP.

My guess would be there was misbehavior in the past, or a lot of the parents would not sign off on letting their kids go, or plans were made and for some reason they fell through at the last minute.

I mean it makes more sense than we drove Jersey went to Dave & Busters and came back. Now it seems like they go to NYC do a couple of activities and this year broadway can't happen for some reason and they just happen to have decided to stop at Dave & Busters for lunch/a leg stretch on the way.

My kids' former k-8 used to go to Costa Rica for a week in 8th grade. Then they switched to 5 days in New Mexico. Then post covid they switched to 2 nights in NYC (with Broadway play and activities).

Seriously hope this post is about a different school! Public and private schools across the country all come here to DC for 8th grade. Our kids should at least get a 3 day trip somewhere fun...

What???? No way that it is just some Novo-riche parent who thinks Dave n Busters in Jersey is chic 🤣

I think Dave and Busters in NJ is definitely a cultural experience.

Given the $60k tuition perhaps the purpose of the trip was to experience class/cultural differences?

Maybe, but I wouldn’t go to New York for that. Maryland would be fine.
