Principals and schools know no more than you do. Obviously we always operate on the assumption school is open, until told otherwise.

Inside scoop from bus drivers -- it's not looking great as of around noon. Buses got stuck. Too many roads were impassable that it overloaded the radios used to communicate routes. I feel so bad for these bus drivers that are clearly trying to make this work. I think they're going to need to come up with an alternative plan for buses in order to reopen.

Strange. Busses have been operating with no issue for sports teams.

We are reopening tomorrow. Bet on it and get ready to deal with some hassle. Let's call it a win for everyone.

I just commented on the other thread. What do you mean by this? They don’t pick up kids or drop them off at their houses. Parents bring them to school. I don’t understand why you keep posting this.

They probably should have thought about that early last week. Omg.

did they give examples of how exactly thing shave improved over the last 24 hours? All these districts are a joke. If tomorrow is a 2 hr delay there is no reason why today couldn't have just been a delay.

Those busses drive from school to school for a sport event. They are not driving around neighborhoods, and picking up kids from bus stops, with kids standing and walking on icy sidewalks and snow covered bus stops. You don’t understand the difference?

What they need are more direct bus routes through neighborhood rather than winding down every street for 20 stops.

Didn’t they use modified bus routes last year after the snow closure that did exactly this?

The sports buses go from one plowed FCPS HS parking lot to another plowed parking lot. They are not weaving through neighborhoods with one plowed lane trying to make tight turns or back up to turn around to pick up kids who may be standing on/next to a snow bank. For example, the NoVA Track Districts took place in PG county on Friday. The kids got to the HS on their own, and then the bus went from the HS to the event via the Beltway. If a kid could not get to the HS, then they did not compete.

Are you being sarcastic? Evidently you are not a working mother trying to balance meetings, deliverables, proposals, trying to limit screen time, thinking of educational activities to keep kids engaged, remembering to feed your kids meals (let alone feed yourself), slip sliding all over the yard while taking the dogs out, etc., etc.

I understand why the kids are out of school and I'm resigned to that, but I am not going to pretend that I'm happy about it and that I think that it's better for my kids to be home rather than in school.

That's what family is for. You and your husband should enjoy this time together with your children. You'll miss it when it's gone.

I absolutely agree! It's sad that anybody has to tell people to enjoy the time they have with their kids despite whatever work issues they also must endure. Although on the other hand if you refuse to be happy about that part of it you are probably right that your kids would be better off in school or with a sitter. They don't need to get the vibe that you can't appreciate extra time with them.

Not referring to PP, but not everybody is a loving and caring parent - they often hate every aspect of parenthood.

They should do this! Consolidate some of the stops and have kids walk out to main roads. Their parents can wait with them if needed. Then the bus can use main roads and not get stuck.
