Evidently you are not a working mother trying to balance meetings, deliverables, proposals, trying to limit screen time, thinking of educational activities to keep kids engaged, remembering to feed your kids meals (let alone feed yourself), slip sliding all over the yard while taking the dogs out, etc., etc.

I understand why the kids are out of school and I'm resigned to that, but I am not going to pretend that I'm happy about it and that I think that it's better for my kids to be home rather than in school.

That's what family is for. You and your husband should enjoy this time together with your children. You'll miss it when it's gone.

I absolutely agree! It's sad that anybody has to tell people to enjoy the time they have with their kids despite whatever work issues they also must endure. Although on the other hand if you refuse to be happy about that part of it you are probably right that your kids would be better off in school or with a sitter. They don't need to get the vibe that you can't appreciate extra time with them.

Parents do not have to enjoy every moment of parenthood. They are allowed to be frustrated with prolonged school closures and stressed about balancing work and kids, especially when it brings back memories of what was a really hard time during the pandemic. It is ok for kids to be aware that their parents can't always drop everything when school is closed, especially now that most adults can telework. Not everything is a black and white dichotomy. That is the thinking of a simple-minded individual. Emotions can co-exist.

Our bus stops are mounds of ice. Don’t know where the kids are supposed to walk, stand or go. I now have to drive both of my kids to two different schools tomorrow. This sucks.

Could one or both of them get on the bus at a stop that is in better shape? That might be easier than driving to school depending on your circumstances.

I know people dismissed Reid’s call for help but a bunch of us dug out the bus stops in our neighborhood enough for them to stand on the sidewalk even if they need to walk in the street to get on the bus.

Why can’t the school offer a longer window for the drop off? If the kids can arrive within 30 min (instead of 10 min) that would help take off a lot of the stress.

Megan Mclaughlin made that same argument during the covid panic (schools had been closed for months) and was overruled by the members who agreed that in would be inequitable to only let some kids go back.

To add insult to injury, both of my kids’ schools would not let the kids enter early. We left super early to avoid the kiss n ride and then the poor kids weren’t allowed in. Eff u, FCPS.

There is no where to even park now. Our bus stop is off of a main road.
