Opus Dei

But since you likely meant to suggest PP was trying to underplay the abuses in the church, I don't see that comment this way at all. The past abuses in the church are an open public record (most of the abusers are dead or in prison). The current education and reporting program is state of the art and a model for other institutions and has been since the 1980s.

These are facts that are not apologietic nor suggesting in any way that the abuses were anything other than criminal, horrific, and traumatic.

At the same time, it is also true that other organizations are not and have not been forced to be as transparent and are proteced by our laws from doing so; have not undertaken the years of of work to construct a system of protection for children; and have ongoing abuses. To point out other areas of problems is not condoning the ones that are well publicized.

Try about 20 years later when the Boston Globe exposed them. See the movie Spotlight. There wasn't anything open before that.

At least in her family, education is highly valued, even for/especially for the girls. Everyone went to a top school and then grad school and continues to work after having kids. The biggest thing is just daily, constant Catholicism. This isn't a Christmas and Easter type religion. It's mass every day, hair shirts, lots of retreats, participating in every single sacrament.

They weren't super into this but I know other OD women who are very into the liturgical year and celebrate every feast day. Check out Kendra Tierney. I believe she's OD or at least her late husband was. She has ten kids.

Yes, Kendra Tierney is an Opus Dei cooperator.

Interesting, thanks. What strikes me about these people is that they are just as much cafeteria Catholics as liberal Catholics. Kendra hates Francis and Leo. They basically don't believe in Papal infallibility. They don't follow a lot of the Church's teachings about social justice. Yet they are the True Super Catholics. It's so hypocritical.

There are a number of very powerful and wealthy (some who became more wealthy after converting to Catholicism at the encouragement of an Opus Dei Recruitment Priest from the Catholic Information Center in DC or elsewhere (see Robert Bork, Newt Gingrich, JD Vance, Larry Kudlow, etc,). Peter Thiel has connections to Opus Dei Priest near Stanford. These “devout Catholics” are no different from “prosperity gospel” Christians who believe good Christians should be Christian in order to amass wealth and nice things on earth.

The founder of Opus Dei was an elitist who cooperated and worked with the Fascisr Franco. I’m sure there are good people in Opus Dei and I know that the organization has abused and even engaged in human trafficing of good people. Any good members of Opus Dei need to speak up and demand reform or else you are cooperating in something that is the opposite of what Jesus and God the father taught.

Some organizations are just built on the wrong foundation.

And crumble, or be torn down.
