As an Episcopalian I have about as much in common with these people as I do a a Hassidic Rabbi. This small sect that is about to be outlawed by the Pope doesn't speak for Christianity. |
Of course not, that's what they are to themselves. |
I suspect that they feel good about themselves because they consider themselves to be "True Super Catholics". I'm guessing that they "basically don't believe in Papal infallibility" because they don't like the current Pope. They suspect he's liberal. (So do I) If they liked what he said and did, they'd believe he was infallible! |
Which is so absurd because Papal infallibility is like the whole deal! If you don't believe in that than why even bother? |

You are very close to cracking open the secret of religion. “In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him. And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord over the earth when it was suited to man.” - Jethro Tull "Man created God in his own image." -Ludwig Feuerbach |
There have been precisely two (2) invocations of infallibility: The Assumption and the Immaculate Conception. The Opus Dei status adjustments have nothing to do with infallibility. |
Opus Dei is not a “sect;” and it is not being “outlawed.” Aspects of its unique construction as a “personal prelature” under Canon Law are being adjusted so that it operates in a manner more akin to that of other religious orders and Associations of the Faithful. |

Yes, it is a "sect" Yes, it is a cult. Any religion that harasses members when they choose to leave is a cult. Any religion that tells its members, especially women, what to wear, how to talk etc is a cult. |
Cool. |
Oh FFS. |
+100, from another Episcopalian. It probably won't get outlawed though -- they raise a LOT of money. |

I read this book recently & it's quite interesting. Opus Dei is not just a group of very religious Catholics. It's got a very specific financial structure that allows it to evade responsibility for Opus Dei actions. That's part of what Pope Leo is trying to correct.

Yeah -- they get turned on by seeing their women suffer. They tell themselves - and the women - that they're doing it for God. |
