So many atheists here - why do you care?

They might be being used.

Think about this: when on these boards have you seen believers trying to covert atheists into believing in God? When have you seen them pushed, shamed and antagonized for not believing in God? Never. Why is that? Does that seem strange to you? It's one way. Ask yourself why is it one way? Food for thought.

I live a fairly good life as I know that every moment I have to live is precious.

The anger and misery come from the mythology believers trying to impose their fictions on my life.

"impose their fictions on my life."

EXCEPT no one is doing that to you at all. Its totally all in your head.

There are entire states trying to push Christian curriculum into public schools. Certain US Supreme Court justices make no secret that their religion impacts how they rule. They were in fact chosen because of their religious beliefs, in a nation that is supposed to have separation of church and state.

+1

While this gets pointed out repeatedly, there is almost always some ignorant believer who will post that their beliefs aren't harming anyone.

Their religious beliefs aren't hurting anyone, as long as they are kept out of government.

LOL. Good job proving the posters point!

+1M Atheists are indeed very angry and combative to try and "prove" the religious people wrong on here. Things that make you go hmmmm.

You can take as many personal shots as you like. I don't think any atheists here are angry, except maybe about one thing:

How you believers often won't answer simple questions.

I am not saying your beliefs are wrong. I am asking how you justify them since there seems to be no significant evidence for them. If you take that as "trying" to "prove you wrong", well, that's your issue. This is a discussion forum, after all, and if you're not prepared to discuss things, maybe you should not participate in discussion?

I would encourage you to grow up and if you are going to engage be prepared to explain your religious beliefs the same way you might with someone who disagreed with you on any other topic on DCUM. Gardening, colleges, investing, health, and yes, politics.

Okay. How would you talk about college with someone who didn’t believe that a college education existed?

Someone who thinks that people pay a lot of money and go to college for four years in order to maintain some kind of social standing and to be accepted into their families who might otherwise shun them, or at least be very disappointed and bring it up frequently. That the families are upset not because they care about their family member and believe they would benefit from a college education, but because they have been brainwashed into thinking a college education is real.

However, this person tells you, there isn’t actually anything that is real or valuable happening at colleges or universities. Their main function is in brainwashing the people who attend into thinking they have some kind of value, and anyone with any kind of critical thinking skills could see that higher education is a sham.

How would you respond to these people? And what if every thread on the college board was overrun by them?

Show them a degree. Solid proof of a college education. Show them job postings requiring that education.

Also, every thread in this forum isn't over run by athiests. That's a big stretch.

Many non-believers do believe that believers are "wrong"...hence the use of terms like "idiots", "sheep", etc. etc. to describe them, as well as terms like "sky fairies" to poke fun at someone's beliefs. Don't ask believers to "grow up", when non-believers are also exhibiting childish behavior that you apparently don't like.

The justification is Faith. Period. Either you accept that, or you don't.

I don't accept that. I did, for a long time. I had religious faith too. Then I thought about it, very seriously, and studied it, as I have studied many subjects. I realized that I really wanted to go to heaven and live forever. And eventually, I realized that heaven made no sense.

I’m sorry, but this gets such an eye roll from me. You studied many subjects and eventually discovered that thousands of years of philosophy have been wrong, and the only thing that makes sense is that you are the most important being in the universe.

Okay.

Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of us peons. Why would we be spending any time reading the story of God when we could be learning more about YOU, pp?

Pp did not indicate that.

I can show you a baptismal certificate and church registration. That doesn’t make you believe in God.
In the same way, a college degree isn’t proof of an education.

A college degree is at least proof that you passed enough courses to qualify for a degree. But a baptismal certificate and church registration don't make you a believer - they are only proof that you've been baptized and have joined a church.

Plenty of atheists, including me, have both a baptismal certificate and a college transcript. The baptismal certificate says when and where I was baptized. The college transcript gives every course I ever took at that institution, the grade I received and when I graduated.

Here is an honest answer. A position that I could not hold on faith is one that, after my OWN evaluation, I don't believe in. For example, I don't believe there is life on other planets. I may be right, or I may be wrong. To answer your second question, yes, faith can be a valid path to truth. There were many who believed that we could not travel to the moon. There were many who did...their faith was a valid path to truth.

They would rather go to Hell than be wrong. They also don't want too many other people to go to Heaven who will witness the stupidity so they want to drag as many as they can to the losing side.
