This is interesting, but which cars use lidar for full self driving? Is there one and how much does it cost?

Also, the fog test would fail with a human driver as well. One thing about the FSD on a Tesla is that if something is hard for a human to see, it will also be hard for the FSD to see. So you may be about as safe as driving yourself in many situations. To be fair Tesla does warn you when the cameras are not working and that you need to be vigilant. It will say something like "camera view is degraded" when environmental issues are an issue.

This has a good discussion of the full self driving technologies. Lidar is way more expensive and uses a lot of energy which reduces the range of the car.

Teslas are city cars, and Trump voters, as a whole, are not city dwellers. I travel frequently to visit family in deep red areas, and have never seen a Tesla. Plenty in and around DC, and those mostly were people who bought them before he started wearing clothes and saluting in homage to Nazis. I think possibly some not super-MAGA Republicans and Libertarians also bought into Tesla. But in Trump country you will find posters with a Trump head superimposed over Rambo’s body, and Let’s Go Brandon bumper stickers all over the place. You will not find a Tesla or Cybertruck.

I live in Atlanta, own 3 Teslas, and voted for Trump. Teslas are quite common in Georgia, which went for Trump. But, people dont buy Teslas for a political statement. They are great cars.

Wanted an EV for years, but live in midwest and had range anxiety. I used to be enamored of Tesla (the S is really fun to drive) but starting around 2016 with the Thai diver incident it started to become clear Leon is a right-wing troll. He's now full Nazi and all the Telsa owners I know are trading in for something else (Rivian and Lucid are much higher quality). Also, it seems relevant why Leon is doing the DOGE thing. The most likely reason he bought Trump the presidency is to go in and destroy all the evidence of Telsa (and related company) wrongdoing, of which there is (was) apparently quite a lot. It doesn't seem like he cares about Tesla anymore - just about keeping his butt out of trouble. Certainly DOGE hasn't identified any actual fraud - as with robots and FSD, it's all just BS spewed by Musk to fool the public.
