I have mixed feelings. DC is in at Michigan, but was going to feel pressure to go to UvA. I think Michigan wins in every category, but tuition and maybe weather. DC never lived UVA, but applied bc it made sense. Am I bummed, relieved or both?

From your comments you sound relieved. Accepted OOS at Michigan and deferred in state UVA…goes to show you just how hard it is to get in at UVA. Coveted acceptances for those who really know and appreciate the school.

opposite here. OOS accept to Virginia, oos deferral to Michigan, oos rejection to UNC.

Pp here. I was referring to the poster’s kid who UVA deferred.

Yes I know. I was making a point that her kid got in Michgan and mine got deferred, but flipped for UVA. You win some, you lose some - which is why everyone needs a good list.

Loling at this. Did you know UVA's OOS yield is on par with GMU's?

It's all good news as your DC can move forward on their college journey! My DD has made the decision that a deferral means she will go where she's been accepted and is excited about that! She will not be waiting for the next round. Congrats to all the new Hoos!

Michigan is fantastic. She can move ahead with it as her top choice and if Virginia comes through, she can re-evaluate. Congratulations on Michigan!

Wow! UNC is no small feat coming from VA. Congrats! What major?
I don’t blame you for staying in VA though.

Because VA publics aren’t on the same gpa scale as MoCo

Do Maryland high schools weight their HS courses differently? FCPS is +.5 for honors and +1 for AP

Yes, MD HS provide same weight for honors as AP

Arlington doesn’t even weight honors. Weighted GPAs are worthless.

+1

They recalculate themselves—they look at uw

Are people just not posting, or are there a lot of deferrals?

Must've been a lot of deferrals and rejections.

Yep.

Accepted in-state small private DD. 1540, 4.0 UW. However, DD has heard of many surprise deferrals and rejections (1500+ SAT, top 5%, etc.) and thinks it really came down to essays and letters of recommendation this year.

Accepted in-state, competitive FCPS, 4.0UW, 1580 SAT, major national awards. Also in at GTech.

lab costs. It costs more to educate an engineering student

False. GMU's OOS yield is 16%. UVA's is 60%
