Most NYS and NYC politicians show up to this event.

Trump is in places like NY and CA because he needs money. Harris didn’t need to go to Al Smith to hobnob with money men.

Harris is whipping votes. Better strategy.

I was responding to a comment about Senator Schumer, not VP Harris.

The movie Superstar (1999) was a huge box office flop. The skit was on SNL when they averaged 5-6 million viewers in the late 90s. It’s niche.

Translation: Very few people know who the hell that washed up actress is in 2024, let alone her SNL character from 25 to 30 years ago. Even if you did recognize her, it frankly just wasn’t funny at all.

I did recognize her and I thought it was all very clever.

Thanks for chiming in, Harris comms office.

And of course he didn’t come up with the few zingers that he delivered (eg the Whitmer joke). Are you kidding me, lol?! He’s never been that sharp, even in his prime. He probably didn’t even know about the story to begin with. He already admitted that people at Fox wrote jokes for him.

(Sorry if this was already posted, I couldn’t bear to read the entire thread)

He didn't have a teleprompter and was doing it from written notes.

Mumbling jokes off of a piece of paper.

I never watched SNL regularly but if COURSE I recognized this character. It was a blast from the past. It was never my favorite character but to say nobody knew the reference is ridiculous.

2016: Why didn't Hillary Clinton campaign in Wisconsin?!

2024: Why did Kamala Harris campaign in Wisconsin instead of going to a white tie dinner in New York City?!

The election tradition white tie dinner… which was carried live across cable, YouTube, twitter, etc. and creates hundreds of millions of impressions via viral clipped content and Friday news articles?

Given that Trump has blown through every tradition from not doing 60 minutes to not participating in a peaceful transfer of power, I think you can give attendance at an elite coastal event a rest.

Seriously.

The whole thing seems dumb to me. And somehow presidential candidates “have” to do this? They have to tell other people’s jokes in front of rich people? Meh.

Everyone was fine with this dinner being held back when our presidents and presidential candidates were of high IQ and mental fitness which was before we went bonkers and decided 80 year old people made great presidents. Harris 2024!

Or maybe it’s that candidates used to be (or at least pretended to be) basically decent people who might differ on policy solutions but could be respectful toward one another and hold the good of the nation paramount, so the whole thing didn’t feel like a surreal, uncomfortably phony anachronism.

That decency seems to have gone out the window, oh, I dunno, maybe around 2016, I’d guess?

Harris today said trump is getting tired. He was the one who showed up for the charity diner staying until late last night she didn't even show up and she got booed.

This woman is nuts.

Well, on one side it did. Everyone has their faults, especially politicians, but Hillary Clinton, Biden, and Harris didn't have to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit where they defrauded people out of their money for a fake college. You can be subjective about either side, but that is a cold hard fact.

How in the world do you consider Molly Shannon "washed up"?

Molly Shannon is a… 60 year old D list actress. That SNL character was last on TV over 25 years ago. It’s 2024. Not only did the skit fall flat, it seemed anti-Catholic, like Whitmer’s Dorito communion thing a week ago.

It’s clear that Trump’s tank is empty. Even his campaign is saying so. He’s old. Gearing up for days to attend a late night event is common for elderly people. No shame in that. But he can’t keep up with the demands of being POTUS at this point.

She actually did a Fox News interview this week that replaced a potential Fox News debate between Harris and Trump that Trump refused to do. Yes, Trump, just like Biden, can appear competent when reading off of script at a comfy dinner. Put him on a debate stage with no script and see what happens. Oh yea, we have seen that recently. Ouch. Trump was as out of touch mentally in the September debate as Biden in the June debate. Just stop it with unfit elderly people, will ya?
